Scrivo con parole non accademiche, importante è che si sta sostituendo il nostro cervello, sempre meno autonomo, sempre più eteronomo, educare al digitale è l'unica risposta, anche se necessariamente lenta. Cordialmente Duccio (Alessandro Marzocchi) ***** Abstract Research on autonomous surgery has largely focused on simple task automation in controlled environments. However, real-world surgical applications demand dexterous manipulation over extended durations and robust generalization to the inherent variability of human tissue. These challenges remain difficult to address using existing logic-based or conventional end-to-end learning strategies. To address this gap, we propose a hierarchical framework for performing dexterous, long-horizon surgical steps. Our approach uses a high-level policy for task planning and a low-level policy for generating low-level trajectories. The high-level planner plans in language space, generating task-level or corrective instructions that guide the robot through the long-horizon steps and help recover from errors made by the low-level policy. We validated our framework through ex vivo experiments on cholecystectomy, a commonly practiced minimally invasive procedure, and conducted ablation studies to evaluate key components of the system. Our method achieves a 100% success rate across eight different ex vivo gallbladders, operating fully autonomously without human intervention. The hierarchical approach improved the policy’s ability to recover from suboptimal states that are inevitable in the highly dynamic environment of realistic surgical applications. This work demonstrates step-level autonomy in a surgical procedure, marking a milestone toward clinical deployment of autonomous surgical systems.

Pilz/ Expert Insights Published Jun 26, 2025 China wants to become the global leader in artificial intelligence (AI) by 2030.^[1] <https://www.rand.org/pubs/perspectives/PEA4012-1.html#fn1> To achieve this goal, Beijing is deploying industrial policy tools across the full AI technology stack, from chips to applications. This expansion of AI industrial policy leads to two questions: What is Beijing doing to support its AI industry, and will it work? China’s AI industrial policy will likely accelerate the country’s rapid progress in AI, particularly through support for research, talent, subsidized compute, and applications. Chinese AI models are closing the performance gap with top U.S. models, and AI adoption in China is growing quickly across sectors, from electric vehicles and robotics to health care and biotechnology.^[2] <https://www.rand.org/pubs/perspectives/PEA4012-1.html#fn2> Although most of this growth is driven by innovation at China’s private tech firms, state support has helped enhance the competitiveness of China’s AI industry. Informatico, ricercatore, imprenditore, attivista, poeta, romanziere ed editore, Philippe Aigrain è stato un fervente sostenitore del software libero, che con il suo lavoro ha saputo immaginare un mondo in cui la cultura fosse accessibile a tutti in quanto patrimonio collettivo. La domanda che mi pongo è: se invece di "Intelligenza Artificiale" li avessimo chiamati "confezionatori di testi", su tutto quanto ventilato e temuto -- ridefinizione dei mercati del lavoro, dei modelli produttivi e dell'economia mondiale (musica reboante di sottofondo), distruzione di posti di lavoro, controllo algoritmico, potere delle piattaforme digitali, crescenti disuguaglianze, trasformazioni strutturali e culturali della società (crescendo della musica reboante di sottofondo) -- avremmo cambiato prospettiva, ...oppure no?: - Avremmo seriamente temuto tutto questo? - L'avremmo discusso in questi termini? Non è che ci siamo fatti suggestionare dalle stesse parole inventate che abbiamo tirato fuori? Io TEMO QUESTO della società d'oggi: 1. Al peggio non c'è mai fine, ma non è discutere del problema inventato che ci consentirà di risolvere quello vero...; 2. Mi viene pure il dubbio che inventare falsi problemi -- o, più esattamente, false cause e falsi responsabili -- venga fatto da utili idioti (giornalisti), "pilotati" apposta per focalizzare male la nostra attenzione. E’ la via indicata da un workshop a Pisa che ha esplorato problemi e soluzioni. / Clara Punzi 25 Giugno 2025 | Sezione: gigeconomy, Lavoro, primo piano L’adozione su larga scala dell’Intelligenza Artificiale (IA) sta trasformando il modo in cui viviamo e lavoriamo. Spinta da una rapida accelerazione tecnologica, sostenuta dalle strategie economiche della grandi imprese digitali e dalle scelte politiche dei governi, l’Intelligenza Artificiale sta ridefinendo i mercati del lavoro, i modelli produttivi e l’economia mondiale. Sono stati questi alcuni temi al centro del workshop “AI, Labour and Society”, tenutosi il 10 giugno 2025 presso l’Università di Pisa, organizzato dal gruppo di ricerca in Intelligenza Artificiale della Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa e dall’Istituto di Studi Avanzati “Carlo Azeglio Ciampi” della Scuola Normale con il supporto della “Fondazione FAIR – Future Artificial Intelligence Research”. L’incontro ha visto la partecipazione di studiose e studiosi provenienti da ambiti disciplinari e contesti geografici diversi, dando vita a un confronto ricco e articolato sulle traiettorie dell’innovazione tecnologica, che ha evidenziato come queste non si esauriscano in mere trasformazioni tecniche, ma siano profondamente intrecciate con dinamiche di potere, disuguaglianze sociali e conflitti politici.
