JUL 28 – Personal Data, Surveillance and Contagion David Lyon Director, Surveillance Studies Centre; Professor, Department of Sociology, Queen's University Contact-tracing apps have been much in the news during the pandemic and as they represent particularly intimate tracking systems they have naturally been seen as a rather controversial form of surveillance. Yet as a “second wave” attempt to mitigate the spread of the coronavirus they are frequently seen as a highly plausible tech solution by Big Data advocates. In this talk, David Lyon will discuss the reasons why such systems would be thought of as a potentially undesirable form of surveillance, the range of contexts in which they are being used—from Singapore to Israel/Palestine to the UK, as well as in Canada—and the sorts of safeguards that should be in place where such systems are mooted. The U.K.'s first licensed crypto hedge fund is shutting down

Prime Factor Capital, the first cryptocurrency hedge fund in the U.K. to win approval from the country's government, is closing its doors. Ciao a tutti, Anche secondo me serve sensibilizzare l'opinione pubblica italiana ed europea su questi temi. Il nuovo accordo europeo ha tagliato i fondi su salute, ricerca e ambiente, le tre aree strategiche sulle quali è fondamentali investire per non soccombere ai modelli promossi dalle superpotenze cinesi e americane. E non va per niente tutto bene, né in Italia, né in Europa. Dobbiamo trovare un modo per far passare il messaggio che così non abbiamo futuro, che i figli della casalinga di Voghera saranno degli emarginati digitali gestiti e manipolati da tecnologie cinesi e americane. Il dibattito sui giornali non basta, in Italia li leggono sempre meno persone. E su internet è polarizzato, ognuno è chiuso nella sua bolla. Il pubblico della Gruber è buono, è un palcoscenico politico. Potrebbe quindi servire a sensibilizzare la politica... è stato utile in passato. Possiamo provare a scrivere alla redazione, considerato il dibattito dei prox gg al Senato americano magari potrebbero essere interessati a parlare del modello Italia ed Europa.
