He chopped away at the app’s code to bypass the registration page that required people to sign up with their cellphone numbers. More pruning let him bypass a page that requested personal information like name, age, gender, travel history, and COVID-19 symptoms. Then, he carved away the permissions that he viewed as invasive: those requiring access to the phone’s Bluetooth and GPS at all times By 1 p.m., the app had become a harmless shell, collecting no data but still flashing a green badge declaring that the user was at low risk of infection. “That was my goal,” said Jay. “I succeeded. You can show the green badge to anyone if they ask to check your phone and they won’t be able to tell.”

Secret NHS files reveal plans for coronavirus contact tracing app

One document titled ‘Product Direction: Release One’ and marked as ‘OFFICIAL – SENSITIVE’, includes a series of slides showing the app’s future development roadmap. The documents also reveal that officials within the NHS and Department of Health and Social Care are worried that the app’s reliance on unverified diagnoses could be open to abuse and lead to “public panic” that puts extra pressure on the health service. The documents, which are hosted in Google Drive, were inadvertently left open for anyone with a link to view. Links to the documents were included in others published by the NHS covering the privacy protections in the contact tracing app. Other documents linked to in the document could not be accessed without approval. ... Detto questo, ammetto anche di essere un po' vago e poco analitico quando dichiaro «non abbiamo più bisogno di "mostrare le prove"» [1]; con questo intendo dire - in modo anche provocatorio, lo ammetto - che _oggi_ è chi sostiene che «quei colossi» meritano fiducia che debba prendersi in carico l'onere della prova, una sorta di "inversione dell'onere della prova per motivi storicamente acclarati". Detto in altre parole, non ritengo di dover fare fatica io a fare l'analisi del perché non mi fido, credo piuttosto che è chi chiede fiducia che dovrebbe fare quella fatica. :-) Secondo me, oggi, per meritarsi la fiducia dei cittadini nei confronti del software e dell'hardware che usano ci sono metodi più scientifici e oggettivi rispetto al self-regulation, al ethic-washing o al blind-trust nei confronti di chi li sviluppa e li distribuisce. Carissimi, Non so ma mi aspetterei che la stessa lucidità di analisi che viene giustamente usata dai più su questa lista nell'esprimere pareri o commenti o valutazioni tecniche, fosse applicata anche in questi casi.
