*Pour l’interopérabilité des grandes plateformes en ligne* Lettre commune de 45 organisations de défense des libertés, organisations professionnelles, hébergeurs et FAI associatifs Le 21 mai 2019 Nous, défenseurs d’un Internet neutre, libre et ouvert, appelons le législateur à agir pour que les grandes plateformes deviennent interopérables avec les autres services Internet. *L’interopérabilité garantit à tout le monde de ne pas se trouver captif d’une plateforme* : de pouvoir librement la quitter, sans perdre ses liens sociaux, et de continuer à communiquer avec ses contacts. L’interopérabilité permet à quiconque de lire depuis un service A les contenus diffusés par ses contacts sur un service B, et d’y répondre comme s’il y était. L’interopérabilité est garantie lorsqu’elle repose sur des standards ouverts. Des services comme Facebook, Twitter et Youtube tiennent leur pouvoir du nombre élevé d’utilisateurs et d’utilisatrices qu’ils ont rendu captives : ce grand nombre incite d’autres personnes à rejoindre leur service, et leur captivité permet de leur imposer une surveillance constante à des fins publicitaires. Aujourd’hui, nombreux sont celles et ceux qui souhaiteraient y échapper mais sont contraints d’y rester sous peine de perdre le contact avec leurs relations. Pourtant, en dehors de ces plateformes, des services interopérables réunissent déjà des millions de personnes (Mastodon, Diaspora, PeerTube…), notamment via le protocole d’interopérabilité ActivityPub publié par le W3C en 2018. Ces réseaux décentralisés, basés sur des logiciels libres, sont co-hébergés par une multitude d’acteurs distribuant largement les coûts entre eux, ce qui contribue à l’émergence de modèles économiques bien plus respectueux des libertés que celui de la publicité ciblée. Migrer vers ces services permettrait aussi d’échapper à l’environnement toxique entretenu sur Facebook, Youtube ou Twitter. Ces géants favorisent la diffusion des contenus qui maintiennent au mieux notre attention, souvent les plus anxiogènes ou caricaturaux. À l’opposé de la voie prise par les récentes lois de censure, il ne faut pas espérer que ces plateformes freinent la diffusion de propos haineux, trompeurs ou dangereux, car leur modèle économique, au contraire, renforce cette diffusion. *Il est urgent de permettre à toute personne d’échapper à la surveillance et à la toxicité de ces grandes plateformes en rejoignant des services libres, décentralisés et à taille humaine sans conséquences nocives sur ses liens sociaux. Carissimi, Sinceramente mi preoccupa molto di piu’ la possibilita’ che l’i-vote abbatta completamente pilastri concettuali delle libere elezioni come, ad es. l’assenza di coercizione (o quanto meno le misure per garantirla, o cercare di garantirla), oltre, ovviamente, tutta la questione dell’adeguatezza tecnica del sistema (security etc). La diseconoma di scala sulla scala della dimensione dei prodotti e la clamorosa economia di scala sulla scala della dimensione del mercato (nota teoria economica di Meo di cui dubitare) ha creato questa situazione. Unica alternativa: PROLETARI DELLA CONOSCENZA DI TUTTO IL MONDO UNITEVI !!!! Non propongo una dittatura come obiettivo. La dittatura del proletariato è finita male anche perchè era la solita dittatura di pochi eletti. Ma propongo una lotta dura sotto le bandiere del software e hardware liberi. Esempio: non regalare mliardi di euro all'anno alle multinazionali straniere per prodotti che hanno soluzioni alternative libere. Altro esempio: non scaricare nulla da Youtube, anche se la grande maggioranza dei colleghi ha fiducia solo in Youtube (benchè non ti consenta di usare frammenti di una conferenza per creare una tua lezione o pezzo di lezione, e benchè contenga i proclami dell'ISIS e migliaia di filmati porno). Today the tiny tech-savvy nation is so certain of its cyber defenses that it is the only country in the world to allow internet voting for the entire electorate, in every election, and thousands have already done so in the European Parliament elections. Vi sono poi altri fattori di preoccupazione geopolitica. Noi non abbiamo la storia del popolo cinese, ma non è affatto scontato che non ci si ritrovi presto sotto un giogo analogo (che per noi sarebbe effettivamente un giogo). Per contro, mi chiedo, quali sono gli effetti selettivi di una pressione evolutiva di questo genere? A parità di altri fattori, il Capitalismo favorisce gli organismi egoisti e manipolatori. Che tipo di uomo sta selezionando invece la Cina? E' forse un uomo effettivamente migliore di noi? O è un uomo docile e mite che i nostri discendenti finiranno per dominare? E tale pressione evolutiva si applica anche al Partito? O forse nel Partito Comunista Cinese si applica una selezione opposta, che seleziona organismi analoghi a quelli selezionati dal Capitalismo? Insomma... non so. Sono probabilmente domande legate alla mia ignoranza in materia. Ma sono domande cui non trovo risposte convincenti. Giacomo

Nella puntata del 22 novembre 2018 del podcast Sinology viene fatta un'analisi dei diversi sistemi pubblico e privato di sorveglianza cinesi. https://supchina.com/podcast/mythbusting-chinas-social-credit-system/ Presenta un quadro molto articolato di controlli e incentivi, inserito nelle particolari esigenze della società cinese. Per chi fosse interessato ad un approfondimento che va oltre al trattamento superficiale che viene dato nella maggior parte dei casi in occidente, questo è un punto di partenza ottimo. Uno degli ospiti traduce direttamente dal cinese le leggi e i regolamenti riguardanti il social credit system, per esempio, lavorando quindi con le fonti originali. Grazie, il titolo "dystopian nightmare" si adatta altrettanto bene al modello di sorveglianza americano. "A low social credit score will exclude you from well-paid jobs, make it impossible for you to get a house or a car loan or even book a hotel room." è quanto succede anche in US. Analisi come queste condannano non la sorveglianza, ma l'impiego della sorveglianza da parte dello Stato comunista. Il confronto dovrebbe contemplare l'alternativa *non* basata sulla sorveglianza, altrimenti implicitamente accettiamo la sorveglianza come inevitabile.
