Non si tratta di proteggere l'uomo dal software cattivo, ma di garantire la responsabilità umana e la _assoluta_ trasparenza algoritmica, per proteggere l'uomo dall'uomo. In tutti questi articoli divugativi manche sempre questo aspetto. La semplice considerazione che la complessità rilevante non è quella informatica, ma quella socio-politica, quella umana. Non è il software ad essere soggetto alla legge ma l'uomo. Non c'è ragione di limitare la ricerca di AI che ottimizzino la vendemmia o che prevedano lo scioglimento dei ghiacci polari o ancora la diffusione di un parassita in un territorio. Ma se un software tratta dati umani o se influenza seriamente la vita di persone e comunità, la trasparenza e la responsabilità diventano fondamentali. Bisogna essere in grado di riprodurre l'elaborazione in debug. E bisogna essere in grado di ricondurre le responsabilità di bug, errori e manomissioni, sia nei dati che nel codice. Ma questo indipendentemente dal fatto che vi sia una rete neurale in esecuzione. Le reti neurali semplicemente evidenziano un problema generale, la cui soluzione può essere quella di non utilizzarle in un determinato contesto. Non si tratta di vietare una tecnica ma di pretendere competenza, trasparenza e responsabilità. Giacomo

Switzerland’s new Tesla police cars hit data protection roadblock

But now there are fears a planned spring 2019 roll-out will be delayed after concerns were raised about the fact that the internet-connected could "listen in" on their drivers because key commands are voice-activated. Data from these voice recordings could theoretically be mined from Tesla servers, regional daily BaslerZeitung initially reported. However, the newspaper later clarified that this example had been intended as a fictitious example of a potential issue with the Tesla police cars after the carmaker on Friday stated that its vehicles do not make record voice. "Thus, no voice recordings are conducted and, logically, no voice recordings are transmitted to the server and evaluated," said Tesla in comments emailed to Swiss news outlets including The Local on Friday. But there are still issues with the fact that Tesla can remotely access its cars – as was demonstrated in 2017 when the company remotely upgraded the batteries of vehicle owners escaping from the path of Hurricane Irma in the US state of Florida. In addition, Tesla can access information on the location of its cars to diagnose and resolve vehicle issues, although the company states this option is limited to a small number of personnel. The company can also, with customer consent, collect anonymized information on the direction and speed its cars are travelling – potentially problematic for a police force. [...]

Diritto d'autore e licenze software

Ciao a tutti, sto cercando materiale di studio sul diritto d'autore (italiano ed internazionale) e le licenze software in particolare, e sono certo che i giuristi e i docenti di Nexa potrebbero condividere ottimi suggerimenti di lettura. Le fonti di studio che mi sono state suggerite fin ora sono 1. https://ifosslr.org/ 2. "Open Source Licensing: Software Freedom And Intellectual Property Law" di Lawrence Rosen 3. "Open Source for Business: A Practical Guide to Open Source Software Licensing" di Heather Meeker Ho però l'impressione si tratti di fonti fortemente orientate al common law e immagino vi sia molto da aggiungere per considerare anche il diritto continentale nei miei ragionamenti. L'obbiettivo di questo studio non è semplicemente quello di soddisfare la mia curiosità intellettuale (pur presente), ma quello ingegneristico di rifinire la Hacking License. Grazie in anticipo! International Symposium 'Future Visions for a Democratic Internet'

Cari followers della lista Nexa, allo University College di Dublino <https://www.ucd.ie/law/> stiamo organizzando una conferenza dal titolo ‘Future Visions for a Democratic Internet: Actors, Norms, Institution’ <http://www.democraticinternet.com/>. Essa avrà luogo presso la Sutherland School of Law il 27 giugno 2019. Il nostro obiettivo è quello di far incontrare studiosi interessati ad avanzare potenziali soluzioni giuridiche per accrescere il livello di democrazia nel mondo digitale. La conferenza si articolerà in due momenti. La mattinata sarà scandita da una serie di panels con presentazioni tradizionali. Nel pomeriggio stiamo organizzando una tavola rotonda ‘multi-stakeholder’ con rappresentanti della pubblica amministrazione, delle ‘tech companies’ irlandesi, associazioni non governative e studiosi con il fine di discutere due proposte concrete per migliorare la democrazia in rete.
