Caro Stefano, sulla fallacia della facial recognition e ai falsi positivi hai ragione, ma non mi farei troppe illusioni. Quelli che vediamo ora sono dei prototipi la cui funzione prevalente è essere accettati e creare un mercato. Le nuove generazioni di riconoscimento biometrico multimodale e facciale stereoscopico lasceranno in futuro molte meno vie di fuga statistiche. Comunque quello che mi allarma non è tanto l'uso del riconoscimento facciale, tecnologia (per ora) assai fallace, ma un fenomeno molteplice: 1) il sistematico e acritico migrare dei ritrovati dell'industria ICT negli strumenti repressivi, che si allargano alla sfera sociale includendo rating reputazionale e stigmatizzazione new-mediatica. La fantasia distopica di alcuni episodi di Black Mirror è paurosamente prossima agli scenari cinesi. 2) l'assenza di proporzionalità tra la pesantezza dello strumento di vigilanza/repressione e la futilità della trasgressione. Chi prenderebbe le impronte digitali ai figli per sapere chi ha rubato la marmellata? La versatilità delle tecnologie e il basso costo relativo abbatte ogni frizione. Come se non prendere le impronte ai figli fosse determinato solo dall'alto costo dell'operazione di identificazione e dal basso costo della marmellata, e non da una riflessione etica e giuridica. 3) la delega della regolazione alle macchine, o per essere più precisi il passaggio da sistemi giuridico-sociali di regole a sistemi tecnici di vincoli [1] che alla lunga porterà a: - una sproporzionata tutela giuridica della macchina, - la confusione tra la liceità di un comportamento e la possibilità fattuale e tecnica di tenere lo stesso comportamento Può sembrare che la Cina sa un contesto culturale molto distante dal nostro e che certe cose da noi non succederanno mai. In realtà da noi (UE) vi sono maggiori resistenze culturali e una maggior frammentazione dell'autorità, per cui un impiego così invasivo richiede maggior sforzo e tempo. Gli USA sono in una zona intermedia. Ma la politica securitaria in questi tempi ha gioco facile, così come è forte la retorica del progresso tecnologico e del "You have no privacy, so get over it" di Bill Joy.
