We seek 18 participants who work in civil society, academia, politics and business and who are willing to explore and challenge each otherâs ideas concerning the future of the digital economy and cybersecurity in Europe and the US. The fellows will have the opportunity to debate and discuss their ideas with leading experts and practitioners from different sectors. They will emerge from the program with a broader understanding of the pressing issues that will define transatlantic relations in the coming years and with new ideas on how to tackle respective challenges. We hope that our fellows will form a strong network of future decision-makers in the US and Germany. Over the course of 2016, the fellows will meet for two week-long dialogue sessions in Germany and in the US. Discussions will center on two issue areas: on innovation and regulation in the digital economy as well as on cybersecurity and privacy. The two dialogue sessions will take place in Berlin and Munich (July 9â16, 2016) and in San Francisco and Washington, DC (November 12â19, 2016). The fellows of Transatlantic Digital Debates will disseminate the results of their work through blog posts on the program website, op-eds in major publications, and high-profile presentations. The application deadline is May 1, 2016, at 23:59 Central European Time (CET). *Application Requirements* Interested applicants must: * Be a citizen of Germany or the United States. * Have at least three years of professional experience. * Be under the age of 35. * Demonstrate a strong interest in internet and technology policy and in contributing to addressing emerging global challenges. * Have an outstanding academic record and an excellent command of English. * Demonstrate commitment, motivation and leadership. * Be able to attend both sessions of the program. Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, Elon Musk, Larry Page: These are all contemporary “innovators” whose “visionary ideas” and “creative leaps” led to “disruptive realities”—that is, if one buys the rhetoric of certain books and novelty-oriented publications. But those who’ve questioned whether technology really is society’s salve aren’t alone. Lee Vinsel, an assistant professor of science and technology at the Stevens Institute of Technology, wrote a dissertation on innovation and regulation in the early days of the automobile. But lately, he finds that the word “innovation” is overused to the point of meaninglessness—and worse, that it can obfuscate the bleak realities of the status quo. “In a culture where we forget about things like crumbling infrastructure and wage inequality, those narratives about technological change can be really dangerous,” Vinsel says. Durante la conferenza stampa saranno presentati gli sponsor, i partner, i media partner e i 13 speaker che parteciperanno all'edizione universitaria.
