About Rebecca Weintraub Rebecca Weintraub, MD is an Assistant Professor at Harvard Medical School and Faculty Director of the Global Health Delivery (GHD) Project at Harvard University. She is an Associate Physician at Brigham and Women's Hospital in the Division of Global Health Equity and practices medicine within the Department of Medicine. The GHD Project has published over 30 Harvard Business School case studies with Harvard Business Publishing, available online at no cost to the public. Weintraub is a co-faculty lead for the Global Health Delivery Intensive at Harvard, a joint HMS and HSPH training to introduce key principles in global health delivery to providers and implementers. Cari Amici del Centro Nexa, è con particolare piacere che vi invito alla conferenza su Internet Governance che si terrà il 2 ottobre a Torino (Aula Magna del Politecnico). L'incontro è importante per più di un motivo. Innanzittuto, costituirà la nostra conferenza annuale 2014, ovvero, il momento d'incontro principale per i nostri fellows e affiliates e per chi segue da vicino il Centro Nexa. Inoltre, a partire da ottobre, il Centro Nexa assumerà - per i due anni a venire - il coordinamento della Rete globale di Centri Internet & Società, che ha contribuito a fondare nel 2012. L'incontro, quindi, sarà il debutto del nostro coordinamento. In effetti l'anno scorso il mio vecchio cellulare stava andando in pensione e continuavo a guardare e confrontare smartphones. Poi ho preparato un intervento per e-privacy ed ho scelto un modello da 18 euro comprato alla coop, con grande guadagno sia per la privacy che per il portafogli! In a visit to The Washington Post, on Thursday, Berners-Lee said that system is now in danger from Internet service providers (ISPs) who stand to amass too much power over what was intentionally built as a decentralized network — one where no single actor could dictate outcomes to everyone else. Berners-Lee pushed back against opponents of net neutrality regulation who argue that applying new rules on ISPs is tantamount to regulating the Internet. There's a difference between regulating providers of broadband and the services that run on top of it, said Berners-Lee. Strong net neutrality rules would help preserve that line dividing the two and limit the incentive of ISPs to meddle in the market for services. "A lot of congressmen say, 'Well, sign up for the free market' and feel that it's just something you should leave to go by itself," said Berners-Lee. "Well yeah, the market works well so long as nobody prints money. So we have rules, okay? You don't steal stuff, for example. The U.S. dollar is something that everyone relies on. So the government keeps the dollar a stable thing, nobody steals stuff, and then you can rely on the free market."
