Grazie alle moderne tecniche di analisi delle reti complesse, infatti, siamo in grado oggi di sfruttare al massimo l'enorme mole di dati che proviene da questi strumenti, che forniscono i loro servizi in base alle informazioni che gli utenti, in modo del tutto spontaneo, contribuiscono a creare. Tra le informazioni che gli utenti condividono pubblicamente o anche solo all'interno della rete delle proprie amicizie, ci sono spesso le *coordinate geografiche relative alla posizione dell'utente*. Questo pone enormi opportunità di cui non si può non tenere conto, una tra tutte la possibilità per il cittadino di *partecipare "dal basso" in maniera attiva alla vita della propria comunità di appartenenza*, fornendo consigli agli amministratori locali, segnalando disfunzionalità dei servizi pubblici, individuando eventi nelle proprie circostanze che possono essere d'interesse per le persone nelle vicinanze. Ovviamente, questo crea anche problemi di *privacy* e d'identificazione da parte di altre persone non autorizzate, spesso in modo del tutto inconsapevole per l'utente stesso, dato che si riesce a risalire e forse a prevedere la posizione di una persona in base ai movimenti degli appartenenti della sua rete di amicizie. Durante il seminario il prof. Ruffo discuterà di alcuni risultati dell'attività scientifica del proprio gruppo di ricerca (ARCS - Applied Research on Computational Complex System <http://arcs.di.unito.it>) che hanno permesso di capire alcuni aspetti fondamentali sulla percezione che gli utenti ricevono riguardo all'uso dei social media. Inoltre, verranno presentate alcune domande di ricerca la cui soluzione, probabilmente, sarà critica nei prossimi anni. *Biografia*: *Giancarlo Ruffo* è professore associato di Informatica presso l'Università degli Studi di Torino dal 2006 e "Adjunct Professor" presso la "School of Informatics and Computing" dell'Indiana University dal 2011. Coordina le attività di un gruppo di ricerca che si occupa di problemi legati alle reti e al Web mining, con particolare attenzione ai sistemi tecno-sociali, tra cui Social Media, sistemi P2P e Web, pubblicando regolarmente su riviste internazionali e agli atti delle principali conferenze scientifiche del settore. During the DEW we want to *expand the concept of digital ethnography* even further, practically, theoretically and methodologically. We will build on the combined competences of the Centro Studi di Etnografia Digitale, the Fondazione <ahref, and Societing. *The week will feature world famous scholars along with experts from the Scientific Committee and the institutions organizing the week*. The program will last for *five days*. The *mornings* will be dedicated to *lectures*. aspetti giuridici del FLOSS

È passato meno di un anno dall'uscita del libro "The International Free and Open Source Software Law Book" nel quale con l'amico e collega Carlo Piana avevo firmato il capitolo relativo al contesto italiano. Ora da quel capitolo (scritto in inglese) abbiamo tratto anche un articolo che, oltre ad essere in italiano e quindi risultare più facilmente fruibile dall'audience locale, ha un maggior livello di approfondimento delle questioni dottrinali dal punto di vista della scienza giuridica italiana. L'articolo si intitola "Il Free and Open Source software nell’ordinamento italiano: principali problematiche giuridiche", è uscito sul n. 1/2012 della rivista "Informatica e diritto" ed è rilasciato con licenza CC by-sa.
