Faccio io una presentazione la settimana prossima sul tema di Google e la concurrenza in Europa, giovedi il 15 dicembre dalle 1400 alle 1600 nel dipartimento di diritto del Istitutio Universitario Europeo, Via Boccaccio 121, Firenze 50133. Ecco un riassunto in inglese: "This presentation concerns the ongoing investigation currently being conducted by the European Commission into Google, which is alleged to have abused its dominant position in the markets for online search and advertising, in violation of Article 102 TFEU. The details of the complaints against Google will be elaborated, followed by an analysis of the case and its circumstances. There will also be a comparison with similar activity in other jurisdictions."

LAPSI Award: you still have 17 days to apply!

Dear All, The winner of the 3rdLAPSI Award on the most user-friendly design of a PSI portal in the EU will be announced during the second day of the LAPSI Public Conference, scheduled for January 23rd and 24th 2012 (see on-line registration at: http://lapsi-conf02.eventbrite.com/) Since PSI availability is crucial for fostering re-use initiatives, the very purpose of the Award is to support any initiative which can be beneficial to PSI re-use policies for moving forward. The Award is open to public sector bodies, businesses and citizens who designed or manage a PSI portal in the EU. Apanel of experts will evaluate the submitted projects with regard to the user-friendly design of the portal; the originality and the layout appeal of the portal; the efficacy of the portal in facilitating the access of the PSI; the efficacy of the portal in fostering the awareness on legal aspects of PSI (such as competition, data protection and privacy, intellectual property rights). The Award has received the support of the Italian Infocamere(http://www.infocamere.it/) and as a result, the most user-friendly design of a PSI portal will be rewarded with a prize of 1,000 Euros. Application must be submitted in English by 23rdof December 2011 (16:00 hrs CET). Nick Grossman: "Open, Interoperable Cities"

Open, Interoperable Cities The first CityCamp <http://citycamp.com/>, in January 2010 was a memorable event for a bunch of reasons. It simultaneously marked the birth of several civic technology initiatives --- the CityCamp unconference series itself, which has grown like gangbusters since then, Code for America <http://codeforamerica.org/>, which has since just finished its first year and is growing like mad, and of course Civic Commons <http://civiccommons.org/>, which started as a partnership between Code for America and OpenPlans <http://openplans.org/> at that very CityCamp. Despite all the delicious awesomeness that went down that cold, rainy, snowy weekend, there's one thing that has stuck w/ me more than anything else. As folks who've been to unconferences know, the traditional opening activity is to pass the mic around the room and have each person introduce themselves and say exactly three words that describe them. At this CityCamp, I remember that my words were "making" "cities" "easiertouse" (so I was cheating a bit, obv - I'm kind of hit or miss w/ the three words). The line that has stuck with me still from this CityCamp was Phil Ashlock <http://twitter.com/philipashlock>'s opening 3 words. Phil said "Open" "Interoperable" "Cities". Kind of a mouthful, and perhaps a bit abstract if you don't sit around every day thinking about what "open" and "interoperable" mean in the context of cities, like we do. Perché gli scariconi rientrerebbero tra i migliori amici del business autorizzato/ Roma - Ad annunciarlo è stato un recente comunicato <http://www.ejpd.admin.ch/content/dam/data/pressemitteilung/2011/2011-11-30/…> (in tedesco, NdJC) diramato dal Consiglio Federale Elvetico: *lo scaricamento su Internet di contenuti audiovisivi per uso personale resterà un'attività lecita*. Nessuna modifica alle attuali leggi in materia di diritto d'autore, niente implementazione di misure punitive come quelle adottate in Francia con HADOPI o preventivate negli Stati Uniti con l'imminente /Stop Online Piracy Act/ (SOPA). Secondo uno studio <http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2397173,00.asp> riportato dal governo svizzero, *il 30 per cento della popolazione al di sopra dei 15 anni ha scaricato musica, film e videogiochi* senza pagare nulla. [...] The new digital divide raises important questions about social equity in an information-driven world. But it is also a matter of protecting our economic future. Thirty years from now, African-Americans and Latinos, who are at the greatest risk of being left behind in the Internet revolution, will be more than half of our work force.
