Sloan Foundation, and Peter Baldwin, Chair of the Donor Board at the Arcadia Fund, made the announcement at the DPLA plenary meeting today in Washington, DC. The funding---split equally between Sloan and Arcadia---will support an intense two-year grassroots process to build a realistic and detailed workplan for a national digital library, the development of a functional technical prototype, and targeted content digitization efforts. Sloan has previously committed one million dollars towards the establishment of a DPLA Secretariat at the Berkman Center and to support the legal workstream of the DPLA initiative by developing solutions to copyright law obstacles facing public digital library initiatives. Sul tavolo alcuni comportamenti che sembrano violare le direttive Ue in materia di informazioni personali. Un processo che parte dalla segnalazione di un ragazzo di Vienna di FRANCESCA SIRONI DAVIDE contro Golia. Un ventiquattrenne austriaco contro il più importante social network del mondo. E' la storia di "Europe versus Facebook" il progetto in difesa della privacy lanciato da Max Schrems, studente di legge a Vienna. La storia nasce, ancora una volta, un po' per caso un po' per talento e intuito. Mentre si trovava negli Stati Uniti per studio, Max entrò in contatto con un ragazzo che lavorava nella compagnia di Palo Alto. Parlando con lui scoprì che tutti gli utenti di Facebook che non sono residenti negli Usa o in Canada (circa il 70% del totale) fanno riferimento alla sede irlandese del colosso. Da bravo studente di legge, Schrems si rende conto che stando a Dublino, Facebook deve far riferimento alle leggi irlandesi in materia di privacy, ben più rigide e precise di quelle americane. Inizia così la sua piccola campagna a fronte di 22 violazioni che individua nel comportamento del social network, accolte, il 24 agosto 2011, dalla DPC (Data Protection Commissioner) irlandese. Interessante ma non mi sembra che la decisione abbia niente a che vedere con la vicenda del contrassegno SIAE in relazione alla quale, pure, la SIAE fece non poca "pubblicità regresso"! Leggerei, volentieri la decisione del giuri se qualcuno l'avesse.
