STGlobal 2015 CFP: February 1st priority deadline is fast approaching for the 2015 Conference

by Mia Brown

*Dear Colleagues, * *The priority deadline is fast approaching for this year to submit **current research in science and technology in society and policy for the STGlobal 2015 <http://stglobal.org/> conference. This April we mark the 15th anniversary of STGlobal's efforts to foster a creative environment for students interested in the science and technology in society fields. Over the years we have grown into an international conference that provides graduate students not only the opportunity to share their research, but also to network among professionals in their field. * *In collaboration with our mission partners, the American Association for the Advancement of Science <http://www.aaas.org/> and the National Academy of Sciences <http://www.nasonline.org/>, we are excited to announce this year that STGlobal is now accepting submissions for papers and student panels for graduate students. This year, as we seek to expand the scope of our outreach, undergraduates now have the option to participate through our poster sessions. * *All a**bstracts can be submitted through our submission page <http://stglobal.org/abstract_submission/> by February 1st, 2015 for our priority deadline. Submissions will be accepted on a rolling basis afterwards. * *Please feel free to pass this cfp to students who may be interested. Questions about submitting to the conference can be submitted to Contact(a)stglobal.org <Contact(a)stglobal.org>. * *Best, * *Mia Brown* *____________________________________* Mia Brown Vice Chair, STGlobal 2015 Science and Technology Global Consortium E-mail: mia_brown(a)gwu.edu / Contact(a)stglobal.org STGlobal 2015 CFP Abstracts Deadline February 1, 2015 View this email in your browser <http://us4.campaign-archive2.com/?u=50cc8c3aebc9737b674766862&id=3e6bf0cc1d…> *STGlobal 2015 CFP* *STGlobal is a consortium of American colleges and schools that focus on topics related to science policy and science, technology and society.* The consortium’s main effort is the annual graduate student-run and graduate student-centric international conference, held in Washington DC, in the spring. The next conference will be held on April 10th-11th 2015. The 2015 event also marks STGlobal’s 15th year and signifies a new chapter in the wonderful story that is a conference like none other. If you’re a graduate student around the world and have a particular interest in science and technology studies or in science and technology policy, this conference is for you. The independent student-led Organizing Committee also awards travel funds for those that are not located around the Greater Washington DC Metropolitan Area. STGlobal inspires and challenges graduate students to contribute to the forefront of research on science and technology studies and policy issues, at whatever stage of the research process. The 15th Annual STGlobal Conference features a brand new type of submissions, posters, thus allowing students three avenues to present their research: as part of a proposed full panel, as a paper presentation or as a poster. While panels and paper presentations are opne to grad students only, poster presentations will be open to submissions from exceptional work from undergraduates as well as graduate students. *DEADLINE: February 1, 2015* *Submissions* *Panels* Starting with the 2014 edition STGlobal accepts panel proposals. Panels should be built around a theme, have a minimum of 5 paper abstracts (that adhere to the same guidelines as those for individual paper abstracts, below) and optionally a possible discussant. *Paper abstracts* We welcome abstracts on completed research or work-in-progress on issues relevant to science & technology policy (STP) and science & technology studies (STS). While all types of research within these broad disciplines is welcome, we would like to encourage submissions that highlight creative research and methodologies (ethnography, visual studies, digital media, etc.) in areas such as health, energy, sustainability, social justice, education, space studies, innovation, public policy, ethics, governance, and the many intersections between science, technology and the humanities. All papers will also be considered for poster presentations. *Poster abstracts* This year we are opening up the conference to undergraduate students that are interested or involved in STP or STS and have done some research in these areas. Poster abstracts should also adhere to the general directions for paper abstracts. Graduate students are also welcome to submit poster abstracts. *Eligibility* Panels, papers and poster abstracts are open to students currently enrolled in a graduate program at any institution around the world at the time of submitting an abstract, for work performed while enrolled. Poster abstracts are also open to students currently enrolled in an undergraduate program at any institution around the world at the time of submitting an abstract. Submit Your Abstract <http://stglobal.us4.list-manage1.com/track/click?u=50cc8c3aebc9737b67476686…> *Guidelines* Abstracts should not exceed 250 words, setting out the main research questions, theoretical framework, methodology, and findings. Submit abstracts at http://stglobal.org/abstract_submission/ with the following information: 1) Whether is “Completed Research” or “Work-in-Progress”. 2) Panel proposal, individual paper submission or individual poster submission. 3) Title of research. 4) Full contact information. 5) University + academic program + expected date of graduation. 6) Whether you are applying for a travel grant *Friday April 10th, 2015*- AAAS, 1200 New York Avenue NW, Washington, DC 20005– Entrance @ 12th & H Streets *Saturday April 11, 2015* - The National Academy of Sciences Bldg. 2101 Constitution Ave, NW Washington, DC <http://stglobal.us4.list-manage2.com/track/click?u=50cc8c3aebc9737b67476686…> Tweet <http://stglobal.us4.list-manage.com/track/click?u=50cc8c3aebc9737b674766862…> <http://us4.forward-to-friend.com/forward?u=50cc8c3aebc9737b674766862&id=3e6…> Forward <http://us4.forward-to-friend.com/forward?u=50cc8c3aebc9737b674766862&id=3e6…> <http://stglobal.us4.list-manage2.com/track/click?u=50cc8c3aebc9737b67476686…> Share <http://stglobal.us4.list-manage1.com/track/click?u=50cc8c3aebc9737b67476686…> *Copyright © 2015 STGlobal, All rights reserved.*

R: R: visioni contrastanti sulla riforma del copyright

by Fulvio Sarzana

Z. Keating: "What should I do about Youtube?"

by J.C. DE MARTIN

*Zoë Keating's Blog: What should I do about Youtube?** * 22 Jan My Google Youtube rep contacted me the other day. They were nice and took time to explain everything clearly to me, but the message was firm: I have to decide. I need to sign on to the new Youtube music services agreement or I will have my Youtube channel blocked. This new music service agreement covers my Content ID account and it includes mandatory participation in Youtube’s new subscription streaming service, called Music Key, along with all that participation entails. Here are some of the terms I have problems with: 1) All of my catalog must be included in both the free and premium music service. Even if I don’t deliver all my music, because I’m a music partner, anything that a 3rd party uploads with my info in the description will be automatically included in the music service too. 2) All songs will be set to “montetize”, meaning there will be ads on them. 3) I will be required to release new music on Youtube at the same time I release it anywhere else. So no more releasing to my core fans first on Bandcamp and then on iTunes. 4) All my catalog must be uploaded at high resolution, according to Google’s standard which is currently 320 kbps. 5) The contract lasts for 5 years. I can’t think of another streaming service that makes such demands. And if I don’t sign? My Youtube channel will be blocked and I will no longer be able to monetize (how I hate that word) 3rd party videos through Content ID. I told the rep I’m happy with Content ID as it is. Can’t I just continue to participate in Content ID and not be a part of Music Key? No. The rep said they can’t have music in the free version that is not in the paid version, it would be bad for their users. All music content has to be licensed under this new agreement.
