Il testo, che vede come primo firmatario *il senatore dem Filippo Sensi* (già attivo nella precedente legislatura sul tema delle intelligenze artificiali), chiede al ministero dell'Interno delucidazioni in merito alla “*capacità di previsione* di una serie di reati in base allo sviluppo di un algoritmo di intelligenza artificiale - sulla carta controllato e gestito da operatori della Polizia di Stato - come supporto alle indagini preliminari” e di chiarire “quali interventi intenda mettere in atto per introdurre il sistema Giove in Italia, *se esistono altri software* di questo tipo già in uso o dei quali si prospetta l'utilizzo, *quali aziende siano state coinvolte* nella definizione di questa tecnologia, della sua implementazione e del suo sviluppo”. Alex, Bastien, Julie, Juliette, Marne, Mathieu, Myriam, Noémie et Nono Chiffrer ses communications, c'est désormais suspectL'affaire antiterroriste « du 8 décembre », beaucoup moins médiatisée que l'affaire « de Tarnac » en 2008, lui ressemble beaucoup : dans un cas vertigineux d'auto-intoxication policière, les agents et le parquet, à force de surinterpréter des signes, finissent par se convaincre de l'existence d'un complot terroriste. Mais ce qui a plus spécialement attiré notre attention dans le dossier d'instruction, c'est l’insistance avec laquelle les enquêteurs reviennent sur le fait que les inculpé·es chiffrent leurs communications numériques. Utiliser sur un smartphone un système d'exploitation libéré de Google (/e/OS), utiliser sur un PC un système d'exploitation chiffré (Tails), naviguer sur le Web avec un navigateur chiffré et anonyme (Tor), et même utiliser une messagerie instantanée chiffrée (Signal), sont pour les policiers de l'antiterrorisme des signes certains que vous avez la « volonté de vivre dans la clandestinité » et que vous avez forcément quelque chose de très grave à cacher... L'histoire donnerait envie de rire si elle n'était pas dramatique : depuis trois ans déjà, 7 personnes vivent au quotidien sous la pression de la police antiterroriste, avec la suspicion et la surveillance constante que cela entraîne, le harcèlement des proches, l'épuisement mental et les convocations incessantes. Par ailleurs, le chiffrement des communications est un droit et un besoin. Dans une société qui transforme en crime le désir de protéger son intimité, plus personne n'est en sécurité. Tout le monde a déjà entendu (ou même prononcé) la célèbre formule des personnes que la surveillance (des autres) ne dérange pas : « Je n'ai rien à cacher ». Cette banalité a surtout un envers très inquiétant : si vous voulez cacher quelque chose, alors on peut vous le reprocher. Working Conditions, Worker’s Health and Managerial Ideology in AI Data Annotation Platforms This presentation builds upon the upcoming research conducted by DiPLab/LATRAPS titled “Microwork in Brazil: Who Are the Workers Behind Artificial Intelligence?” to offer a unique perspective on the data production for AI training in Brazil. The focus of this presentation is to analyze the impact of working conditions on the health of individuals engaged in informal platform jobs in Brazil, particularly emphasizing the relationship between these conditions and managerial ideology. The data sources utilized in this analysis also include a digital ethnography conducted between 2020 and 2021, analysis of platform websites terms of service, and in-depth interviews with Brazilian microworkers. By examining the four mediation systems of economics, politics, ideology, and psychology, the presentation argues that managerial ideology, intertwined with the Californian ideology, plays a crucial role in labor management. The primary objective of this ideology is to ensure worker compliance with the platforms while concealing labor conflicts by shifting them to the individual level, thus creating an environment of individualized suffering. Over the past decade, considerable research and industry efforts have focused on addressing biases and minimizing personal subjectivities in data collection, curation, classification, and labeling by data workers. In this talk, I propose a shift of perspective to emphasize *the importance of labor in data production* and explore power imbalances inherent in data work that significantly shape datasets and systems. I argue that enhancing labor conditions in data work and leveraging data workers’ expertise can improve data quality and help develop ML systems that are more inclusive and just. Starting from the assumption that power imbalances are the problem, not just bias, leads to fundamentally different research questions and methods of inquiry. In this sense, I highlight *the need for interdisciplinary dialogue and cooperation in the study of data quality and data work*.
