Ero al MIT AI Lab nel 1978 e ho lavorato gomito a gomito con RMS alla tastiera della Lisp Machine, programmando il suo window system. Ho potuto così apprezzare le abilità di RMS, che considero il miglior programmatore che abbia mai conosciuto. Ho anche assistito alle discussioni e alle sue urla quando gli altri del gruppo decisero di fondare la Symbolics. Quel gruppo al nono piano di Tech Square era la sua unica e vera famiglia e non poteva sopportare che venisse distrutta. Ma posso anche testimoniare che molestava le ragazze negli ascensori.
