Buongiorno a tutti, Venerdì 9 ottobre presso il Politecnico di Milano si terrà una giornata di studio su "Digital Humanism | Umanesimo Digitale", dedicata alla prima presentazione pubblica in Italia del Manifesto di Vienna sull'Umanesimo Digitale. Questo manifesto è un appello a riflettere e ad agire sullo sviluppo tecnologico attuale e futuro, che sembra a volte minare la società e mettere in discussione la nostra comprensione di cosa significhi essere umani. L'obiettivo è costruire una società giusta e democratica in cui le persone siano al centro del progresso tecnologico. Per partecipare all'incontro: https://meet.nexacenter.org/MercolediNexa A brief survey of *net art from the 1990s and early 00s* will demonstrate the challenges faced by curators and preservationists. The *absence of physical art objects* presents the *central problem*. Although some works of art can be meaningfully reproduced, often all that is left is documentation and some physical artifacts. This presents countless trappings because art's borders are necessarily blurry. *Works of engineering* must provide their prescribed functionality. Results from *scientific processes* must be replicable. Art's subtle intent is always in danger of being overshadowed. For example, *technological artifacts* such as period computers may depict *networked artwork* as a relationship between things when, in reality, the artwork is *about relationships between people*. The savvy archivist knows that every net artist casts human concerns in the shape of computation using the tools of their day. The nature of the medium dictates that individual artifacts are trivial to reproduce if stored properly. However, the interdependent digital systems that are the artifacts' raison d'être are impossible to recreate. This seminar will address the *existential questions*, *current best practices*, and *future technologies* that may help combat a generational loss of culture. The corruption of defi in 2020

I decided to publish this anonymously so that the message would not be dismissed as virtue signaling. Anyone who communicates this message would be rejected by the decentralized finance (“defi”) community. There is an unspoken agreement between defi insiders and the bad actors that they protect. The insiders do not challenge malfeasance, and for their leniency they are rewarded with privileged information. If an outsider draws attention to the corruption, the insiders dutifully defend the bad actors by saying it only looks bad from the outside. The rationalization goes like this — it’s really hard to understand how legitimate everything is unless you contribute to the space. Non-contributors who feel victimized by insiders should blame themselves. They volunteered for abuse. It is a permissionless system. This is the twisted song and dance that drove defi profit-making in late 2020. Offer something to the space, and draw closer to the center. See something suspect? Keep quiet to draw further in, or raise a fuss and be phased out. A community that rewards bad actors and punishes good ones will soon find itself full of people who are openly hostile to discussions of virtue. New recruits will fit a certain mold, and the oldest members will look away and acquiesce to the turpitude. “What are the costs of little or no governance, scrutiny and understanding of multiple health data initiatives when governments, academics, public sector organisations and businesses can avoid the normal controls and transparency?” THE COVID PANDEMIC has placed a spotlight on the need for better, faster ways to share data for many purposes such as monitoring the rate and spread of the disease, identifying early warning signals for break-outs, evaluating its impact on different groups within the population, and conducting ‘track and trace’ exercises. Many initiatives have mushroomed over the last few months, some of them extremely ambitious – and they have done so extremely quickly. In one sense, that’s good – in an emergency, we have to act fast. But it also means that compromises are made and corners cut in ways that store up trouble for the future. Could this be happening with many of the current initiatives relating to health and care data? What are the costs of little or no governance, scrutiny and understanding of multiple health data initiatives when governments, academics, public sector organisations and businesses can avoid the normal controls and transparency? per me che vengo da un altro campo (LIS, library and information science) questa è l'espressione della complessità delle competenze che si devono avere nel mondo digitale, e che invece mancano. pubblicare in youtube è ottimo nell'urgenza del presente, ma la conservazione a lungo termine non si fa con youtube, per una varietà di motivi tra cui questi appaiono più evidenti: youtube non è una biblioteca digitale; l'impermanenza è una caratteristica specifica delle fonti digitali; anche una biblioteca digitale a sua volta ha dei problemi di conservazione a lungo termine; i formati dei dati possono cambiare e rendere inaccessibile una fonte che pure è stata conservata. tanto più se stiamo documentando reati e violazioni di diritti la competenza in queste questioni tra computer science e LIS è ineliminabile per esercitare pienamente i propri diritti civili e politici. è evidente che occorre alfabetizzare i cittadini al digitale, proprio come un secolo e mezzo fa era necessario alfabetizzare alla lettura-scrittura (sia delle lettere sia dei numeri).
