Il presidente del Consiglio prodi e il suo ministro Nicolais, con la collaborazione della senatrice Magnolfi, avevano costituito una commissione da me presieduta che aveva il compito di suggerire norme pratiche finalizzate a portare il software libero alla pubblica amministrazione. La commissione produsse un rapporto di circa 300 pagine, ma, sfortunatamente, il governo Prodi cadde e il ministro Nicolais fu sostituito dal ministro Brunetta. Questo nuovo ministro affermò che la questione non era per lui di nessun interesse, non mi volle ricevere e buttò il rapporto nel cestino. Raf

Executive Order on Improving the Nation’s Cybersecurity

The United States faces persistent and increasingly sophisticated malicious cyber campaigns that threaten the public sector, the private sector, and ultimately the American people’s security and privacy. The Federal Government must improve its efforts to identify, deter, protect against, detect, and respond to these actions and actors. The Federal Government must also carefully examine what occurred during any major cyber incident and apply lessons learned. But cybersecurity requires more than government action. Protecting our Nation from malicious cyber actors requires the Federal Government to partner with the private sector. The private sector must adapt to the continuously changing threat environment, ensure its products are built and operate securely, and partner with the Federal Government to foster a more secure cyberspace. In the end, the trust we place in our digital infrastructure should be proportional to how trustworthy and transparent that infrastructure is, and to the consequences we will incur if that trust is misplaced... continua qui [1]. I Mailed an AirTag and Tracked Its Progress; Here’s What Happened

Buongiorno nexiane, Executive summary: attraverso il nuovo dispositivo AirTag di Apple è possibile geolocalizzare nel tempo qualsiasi oggetto che lo contiene grazie alla capillarità della rete "Find My network", abilitata di default, che è fornita dall'app "Find My" disponibile su tutti i recenti device con sistema iOS, iPadOS, macOS e watchOS. I dropped it in the mailbox in my village, just down the road from my home. I made sure to open the Find My app on my iPhone when I was next to the mailbox; it showed the correct location. [...] my experiment shows that you can track these devices to a certain extent. The reason for this is the sheer size of the network of iOS devices that can locate AirTags. Apple says that there are nearly one billion iOS devices around the world that participate in this network, and that ensures that you can locate AirTags in most situations. [...] I gave my partner an AirTag last week for her to take when she went on an errand, driving about 20 miles from home. Since she has an iPhone, I expected to see frequent updates in the Find My app, but that wasn’t the case. It seemed that when she was on the road, there weren’t many updates, but when she got to a shopping mall – where there are lots of people with iPhones – it updated much more often. Curiously, it updated at one location on the road in both directions, which was when she drove around a large roundabout. Perhaps when the device is traveling fast, there are less frequent updates, and when it slows down, it updates more often. --8<---------------cut here---------------end--------------->8--- Per essere chiari: dispositivi del genere è già da qualche tempo che sono in commercio, da "tag" bluetooth fino a scatolini con dentro GPS e SIM 3/4G, ovviamente tutti connessi a una app "in cloud"... mica a casa nostra. Lo sanno bene per esempio i padroni degli animali che vogliono geolocalizzare i propri amici a quattro zampe, facendosi involontariamente geolocalizzare anche loro. La novità della situazione è che Apple ha creato questa "Find My network" [1] (qualcuno si sicorda la buona vecchia "FON network" della Fonera?!?) che copre praticamente ogni area urbana grazie al miliardo di dispositivi iOS distribuiti sul territorio. La cosa è resa ancora più fastidiosa dal fatto che la partecipazione alla rete "Find My network" è attiva di default - cioè chi non vuole pertecipare deve fare l'opt-out entrando nelle impostazioni [2] - sui dispositivi che hanno l'app "Find My" e da quello che ho capito quell'applicazione ce l'hanno tutti e per attivarla è sufficiente avere un account iCloud. Domanda: per usare un dispositivo iOS è necessario avere un account iCloud o si può usare anche senza registrarsi? Apple assicura che i dati sono crittografati e2e e in questo modo nemmeno Apple può sapere quali dispositivi un utente sta tracciando, quindi per chi si fida del software proprietario che gestisce l'e2e questo non è un problema. Quelli come me che invece non si fidano temono che in qualche modo l'e2e possa essere sovvertita da qualcuno con adeguate capacità e potere per poter tracciare indiscriminatamente, e non pensiate che siamo complottisti perché non è vero. Rimane però il fatto che questo dispositivo, MOLTO più di altri che NON possono fare affidamento su una rete tipo "Find My network", rende estremamente semplice tracciare qualsiasi persona, anche a propria insaputa. Rispondo in riferimento a ciò che ha scritto M.Calamari. Non entro nel merito della questione Stallman Ma sù una cosa incredibilmente scivolosa che hai scritto, caro Marco, sì. È necessario chiarire. Ti sbagli > “Nella mia personale *definizione un fatto è una prova che reggerebbe in tribunale* od in una discussione tra storici o matematici, non un tweet od un post nato nelle fogne social, per quanto l'autore possa essere stimato o parere affidabile.” Un fatto è tale poiché è accaduto. La tua (la mia, di chiunque) personale definizione è irrilevante. Dimostrare o meno la veridicità di un fatto, convincere una giuria (o chi per essa) non cancella i fatti. D’altronde se la tua *affermazione fosse sensata*, allora se qualcuno ti graffia l’auto e non si ferma e tu non hai preso la targa, seguendo il tuo ragionamento, quel graffio sulla tua auto non Ti è stato fatto, poiché non esistono prove che qualcuno l’abbia graffiata (magari l’hai graffiata tu per truffare l’assicurazione, qualcuno potrebbe dire). Tuttavia, pur in assenza di prove schiaccianti, il danno ti è stato fatto: qualcuno ti ha graffiato l’auto, e questo prescinde dal fatto che non sei in condizioni di dimostrarlo. Se non riesci a dimostrarlo non significa che ciò che affermi nel dire “mi hanno graffiato l’auto”, provenga da una fogna, perché invece proverebbe da una tua sincera affermazione. Facciamo che se vogliamo preservare l’innocenza di Stallman non chiamiamo fogne le vittime? Ce la possiamo fare? C’è la potete fare? Daje! Facciamocela.
