Datafication | Internet Policy Review
by J.C. DE MARTIN Dec. 25, 2019

Dec. 25, 2019

https://policyreview.info/concepts/datafication ABSTRACT Datafication is not just the making of information, which, in one sense, human beings have been doing since the creation of symbols and writing. Rather, datafication is a contemporary phenomenon which refers to the quantification of human life through digital information, very often for economic value. This process has major social consequences. Disciplines such as political economy, critical data studies, software studies, legal theory, and—more recently— decolonial theory, have considered different aspects of those consequences to be important. Fundamental to all such approaches is the analysis of the intersection of power and knowledge. (Sent from my wireless device; please excuse brevity and typos (if any))

Re: [nexa] EU court rules Airbnb does not require estate agent
by Giuseppe Attardi Dec. 23, 2019

Dec. 23, 2019

— Beppe > On Dec 23, 2019, at 09:53, nexa-request(a)server-nexa.polito.it wrote: > > [nexa] EU court rules Airbnb does not require estate agent

EU court rules Airbnb does not require estate agent licence
by Enrico Nardelli Dec. 23, 2019

Dec. 23, 2019

Ciao, Enrico ------------------------- Airbnb has secured a victory in its fight to avoid more regulation by city authorities after the European court of justice ruled that it acted as an “information society service” rather than a real estate agency. The EU court said the company did not require an estate agent’s licence to operate in France as it was mainly providing a tool for presenting and finding accommodation for rent rather than acting as a broker. The ruling is a boost for the company ahead of of its stock market listing next year. Airbnb is fighting claims from city authorities around the world, including Paris, Amsterdam and Barcelona, that its services are changing the face of neighbourhoods and that it should come under heavier regulation. ... https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2019/dec/19/eu-court-rules-airbnb-do… -- EN ===================================================================== Prof. Enrico Nardelli Dipartimento di Matematica - Universita' di Roma "Tor Vergata" Via della Ricerca Scientifica snc - 00133 Roma tel: +39 06 7259.4204 fax: +39 06 7259.4699 mobile: +39 335 590.2331 e-mail: nardelli(a)mat.uniroma2.it home page: http://www.mat.uniroma2.it/~nardelli blog: http://www.ilfattoquotidiano.it/blog/enardelli/ http://link-and-think.blogspot.it/ ===================================================================== --

How Far is Too Far? | The Age of A.I.
by don Luca Peyron Dec. 21, 2019

Dec. 21, 2019

Can A.I. make music? Can it feel excitement and fear? Is it alive? Will.i.am and Mark Sagar push the limits of what a machine can do. How far is too far, and how much further can we go? The Age of A.I. is a 8 part documentary series hosted by Robert Downey Jr. covering the ways Artifial Intelligence, Machine Learning and Neural Networks will change the world. A YouTube's series on AI with Robert Downey Jr. is available. It seems good for beginners and students, just a tool, but I feel a good one. Downey attempts to demystify terms like machine learning and computer vision while showing off some of the latest advancements in the field. Have a nice day! dl https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UwsrzCVZAb8 _________________________ www.universitari.to.it via XX settembre 83, Torino tel. 011 5156239
