*HPC4 di Eni è il supercomputer più potente al mondo a livello industriale* /Il nuovo supercalcolatore HPC4 di Eni ha quadruplicato la potenza del Green Data Center, rendendo la struttura lombarda la più potente al mondo a livello industriale./ di Francesco Destri Gen 19, 2018 Eni ha avviato presso la propria infrastruttura di supercalcolo situata nel Green Data Center di Ferrera Erbognone (provincia di Pavia) il nuovo supercalcolatore denominato HPC4, quadruplicando la potenza dell’intera infrastruttura e rendendola la più potente al mondo a livello industriale. HPC4 ha infatti una performance di picco pari a 18,6 Petaflop che, associata a quella del sistema di supercalcolo già operativo (HPC3), porta l’intera infrastruttura a raggiungere una disponibilità di potenza di picco pari 22,4 Petaflop, vale a dire 22,4 milioni di miliardi di operazioni matematiche svolte in un secondo. South Wales Police first force to make arrests using facial recognition

The charges include theft, sexual offences, burglary, robbery and drug offences. South Wales Police say they have addressed any concerns about privacy, and will continue the trial of the technology until March. The overall effectiveness of facial recognition has been high, evidenced in part by the positive match figures of AFR Identify and the number of charges being brought against offenders. Our confidence in AFR as a valuable addition to our operational toolkit means that we will be extending the trial until March 2018 when an evaluation will be done in order to develop our findings further. Throughout the trial South Wales Police has been very cognisant of concerns about privacy and we have built in checks and balances into our methodology to make sure our approach is justified and balanced. We have had detailed discussions with all interested regulatory partners, including the local Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), the Home Office Biometrics Programme, as well as the Surveillance Camera Commissioner, to ensure that we are considering the wider needs in relation to the Data Protection Act and to ensure that the deployment of this technology is proportionate whilst recognising the need to balance security and privacy." – Superintendent Alun Morgan, South Wales Police. Automated Facial Recognition (AFR) 'Locate' is a real time solution which utilises live feeds from CCTV typed cameras based either at specific, fixed locations or cameras secured to the top of a police vehicle to locate people on watch lists. Additionally, Automated Facial Recognition (AFR) 'Identify' allows officers to load images of persons of interest and compare them against half a million custody images for a possible match. The software isn't limited to criminal investigations. It can also help with identifying missing persons or those suffering from Alzheimer's or other similar health issues, which allow officers to safeguard the vulnerable, quicker.

La Polizia postale potrà imporre la rimozione del contenuto al provider e diffonderà le smentite/ 18 gennaio 2018 *ROMA*- Uno scudo governativo contro le balle della Rete. A farsene carico ora sarà il ministero dell'Interno con il nuovo servizio a disposizione degli utenti per segnalare fake news. Lo ha presentato oggi la Polizia nella sede del Polo Tuscolano con il ministro dell'Interno*Marco Minniti*, il capo della Polizia*Franco Gabrielli*e il direttore del servizio di Polizia postale,*Nunzia Ciardi*. Il sistema prevede anche la possibilità di arricchire la segnalazione attraverso l'indicazione precisa della url, la compilazione dei campi in cui poter indicare le piattaforme social dove la fake news viene diffusa e fornire le informazioni ritenute utili. Una volta ricevute le segnalazioni, un team dedicato del Cnaipic le verificherà attentamente attraverso l'impiego di tecniche e software specifici e, in caso di accertata infondatezza, pubblicherà una smentita. European Union votes to ratify Marrakesh Treaty

The Marrakesh Treaty requires Contracting Parties to introduce a standard set of limitations and exceptions to copyright rules in order to permit reproduction, distribution and making available of published works in formats designed to be accessible to the visually impaired and otherwise print disabled, and to permit exchange of these works across borders by organizations that serve those beneficiaries. <http://www.worldblindunion.org/English/news/Pages/European-Union-votes-to-r…> [] "Thanks to this legislation, the adaptation and cross-border exchange of copyrighted books will be assured for non-profit uses to serve blind and visually-impaired people," said the EBU. Over 90% of all published materials cannot be read by blind or print-disabled people, leading to a "book famine." Current copyright rules within most countries prevent the ability to reproduce published materials into accessible formats, such as Braille, large print, and audio editions. Working with WIPO, the WBU led the international campaign to develop the Marrakesh Treaty that would facilitate Access to Published Works by people with print disabilities. The Marrakesh Treaty signed in Morocco on 28 June 2013, is a legally binding international agreement that creates mandatory exceptions to national copyright law to protect the human rights of individuals with print disabilities. To date, 33 countries have ratified the Treaty. An addition of 25 EU countries will be a milestone achievement for the WBU's effort to enhance the human rights of print-disabled people.
