Vi segnalo un mio post con cui lanciamo (come Oilproject) una compagna per spiegare ai non addetti ai lavori il problema della libertà di espressione sulle piattaforme private indipendenti (non solo Facebook). Lives put at risk by Communications Data Retention

A report published on 8 October 2010 by German civil liberties activists reveals that human lives are put at risk by the retention of all telecommunication data. According to the report, the data retention policy has endangered scientific research, caused unemployment, encouraged corruption, promoted the abuse of personal data and hindered the prosecution of crime. The report gives examples of cases when the registration of communication data failed to help the police in stopping criminals and how criminals might have used more discreet ways of communicating and internet cafes to disguise the origin and destination of messages. http://www.edri.org/edrigram/number8.20/data-retention-lives-risk Ciao, Paolo

Per quanto personalmente sia favorevole alle tesi sostenute, il lavoro di Oberholzer-Gee & Strumpf è oggetto di un forte dibattito giacché i dati usati non sono disponibili a chi ha chiesto di controllare le stime empiriche e sono stati sollevati , almeno nella comunità degli economisti, forti sospetti di addomesticamento che hanno un po' inquinato il valore del lavoro. According to the American Civil Liberties Union, ISPs are like all four; it's the government's job to make sure that they behave more like the priests than like the wolves, foxes, and discriminatory toll collectors. In an analogy-stuffed new paper <http://www.aclu.org/files/assets/NetNeutrality_report_20101019.pdf> (PDF) on network neutrality, the ACLU argues that the Internet has now entered its "third stage." The first stage was the dial-up era, where a million ISPs bloomed across the US and competition was rampant thanks to common carrier regulation of the telephone network. In the second stage, the "constant vigilance and loud campaigning of Internet activists" kept network neutrality provisions in play even as the regulatory basis for them crumbled. Now we come to the third stage, where "the giant for-profit companies that now dominate Internet access do not want to be constrained by network neutrality rules." Thanks to a 2010 court decision in favor of Comcast, the FCC has lost much of its ability to enforce nondiscrimination principles on the Internet. Combine this with the recent rise of deep packet inspection hardware, and the ACLU foresees a brave new world of filtering and control "which could fundamentally alter the architectural structure of the Internet." Looked at from the narrow perspective of existing record labels, the question must seem absurd; profits have dropped sharply in the years since tools like Napster first appeared. But a pair of well-known academics argue peer-to-peer file sharing has weakened copyright in the US... and managed to benefit all of us at the same time. "Consumer welfare increased substantially due to new technology," write Felix Oberholzer-Gee of Harvard and Koleman Strumpf of the University of Kansas. "Weaker copyright protection, it seems, has benefited society." Weaker is stronger? Peer-to-peer file-sharing on the Internet has certainly weakened copyright, but that's not necessarily a bad thing unless one equates "stronger copyright" with "better copyright." According to the US Constitution, copyright is about promoting "the Progress of Science and useful Arts"; it's not about enriching authors, except as a means of promoting said "Progress." When we think about copyright, the most pertinent question to ask is not whether some change would produce less money for rightsholders, but whether some change would /remove incentives to create/. Has file-sharing reduced creators' incentives?
