A proposito del workshop Nexa su IoT, consumer protection e ownership a Vienna (e re la ricerca della preziosa Miryam Bianco) the shutdown of Revolv reflects how our ownership of a device can change in the world of IoT. If I buy a screwdriver and bring it home, it is mine to use, and no one can take it away. Even if I buy a PC and take it home and never let it perform software updates, it’s still functional. On the other hand, if I buy a device from a start-up that provides cloud connectivity and the start-up goes away, my cloud connectivity goes away and my device may stop working. Trump’s Big Win Is a Giant Setback for Data Crunchers Donald Trump has proven a lot of people wrong, and not just because a year ago today none of us—perhaps not even Trump—would have imagined in our wildest fever dreams that he would wake up May 4, 2016 as the presumptive Republican nominee. It’s also because his win in Indiana last night, which prompted Ted Cruz to drop out of the race, suggests that data—the kind Cruz fastidiously gathered—might not matter all that much to a presidential campaign. After the 2012 election, the prevailing theory was that data had been President Obama’s secret weapon against Mitt Romney. The campaign’s number crunchers sat in a separate space called The Cave, rubbing elbows with the likes of Alphabet Chairman Eric Schmidt and identifying key voters using an internal database named Narwhal. After Obama’s win, the occupants of the Cave got a lot of the credit, and strategists predicted that no candidate could ever win again without ample data on their side. A forza di insistere magari riusciamo a uccidere per sempre l'espressione "nativi digitali". juan carlos* Per favore, non chiamateli nativi digitali* /Una ricerca della Bicocca smonta il mito della competenza informatica giovanile. Poiché i ragazzi usano dispositivi che si connettono in modo trasparente, invisibile, non percepiscono Internet come un'infrastruttura di base. Stanno crescendo in un mondo nel quale non solo non sanno, ma non possono smontare, smanettare, sperimentare. Tutto questo non crea nativi digitali. Polli di batteria, piuttosto/ di Paolo Attivissimo Vado spesso nelle scuole a insegnare le basi della sicurezza informatica e della gestione della privacy in Rete, per cui incontro sovente i cosiddetti “nativi digitali”: i giovani che hanno sempre vissuto attorniati dalle tecnologie digitali e dalle consuetudini sociali che li caratterizzano. Quelli che non si ricordano del mondo prima di Internet, cellulari, tablet, Playstation e smartphone e quindi li considerano elementi assolutamente ovvi e naturali della propria esistenza. I genitori di questi nativi li contemplano spesso estasiati, ammirando la naturalezza con la quale maneggiano i dispositivi digitali, come se vedessero Mozart al clavicembalo, e sospirano rassegnati, convinti di non poter competere con chi è cresciuto sbrodolando omogeneizzati sul touchscreen e sicuri che basti dare ai loro virgulti un iCoso per garantire loro l'articolata competenza informatica di cui avranno bisogno nella carriera e nella vita quotidiana.
