The EU Cannot Shape the Future of AI with Regulation ??
by Enrico Nardelli June 19, 2018

June 19, 2018

HBR: “Uber Can’t Be Fixed — It’s Time for Regulators to Shut It Down”
by J.C. DE MARTIN June 18, 2018

June 18, 2018

https://hbr.org/2017/06/uber-cant-be-fixed-its-time-for-regulators-to-shut-… Uber Can’t Be Fixed — It’s Time for Regulators to Shut It Down Benjamin Edelman June 21, 2017 From many passengers’ perspective, Uber is a godsend — lower fares than taxis, clean vehicles, courteous drivers, easy electronic payments. Yet the company’s mounting scandals reveal something seriously amiss, culminating in last week’s stern report from former U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder. But if in the process we learn how to achieve it by love rather than by fear, by kindness rather than compulsion; if in the process we learn how to combine the essential with the enjoyable, the expedient with the benevolent, the practical with the beautiful, this will be an extra incentive to embark on this great task. Above all, remember your humanity. -- Sir Joseph Rotblat

by Giacomo Tesio June 15, 2018

June 15, 2018

In Europe the recitals 10 and 15 of the Directive 2009/24/EC on the > protection of computer programs seems to invalidate the idea of “strong > copyleft” any portion of code that is strictly necessary for implementing > interoperability can be reproduced without copyright infringement. This > means that linking cannot be submitted to conditions or restricted by a > so-called “strong copyleft licence”. > Vedi https://joinup.ec.europa.eu/collection/eupl/eupl-compatible-open-source-lic… Giacomo

EC Names AI "High Level Expert Group"
by Enrico Nardelli June 15, 2018

Complimenti a Stefano Quintarelli! The European Commission published the names <https://ec.europa.eu/digital-single-market/en/high-level-group-artificial-i…> of the members of its high-level expert group on artificial intelligence today. The group includes a total of 52 business officials, researchers as well as AI experts from other fields. The European Commission is expected to release a broad ethical framework <https://www.politico.eu/article/europe-commission-andrus-ansip-hopes-ethica…> on how to legislate AI in Europe by the end of this year. -- EN ===================================================================== Prof. Enrico Nardelli Dipartimento di Matematica - Universita' di Roma "Tor Vergata" Via della Ricerca Scientifica snc - 00133 Roma tel: +39 06 7259.4204 fax: +39 06 7259.4699 mobile: +39 335 590.2331 e-mail: nardelli(a)mat.uniroma2.it home page: http://www.mat.uniroma2.it/~nardelli blog: http://www.ilfattoquotidiano.it/blog/enardelli/ http://link-and-think.blogspot.it/ ===================================================================== --
