The debate will be an ideal platform to exchange views on the issue of the governance and transparency of collecting companies as well as related legal aspects.* * * The hearing takes place in the framework of an EESC own-initiative opinion on /Copyright/. "The issue of copyright is clearly one that should be examined by civil society, which can play a key role in this regard", said the rapporteur Panagiotis Gkofas (Various Interests' Group, Greece). The co-rapporteur Daniel Retureau (Employees' Group, France) stressed that illegal copying resulted from the absence of an affordable legal supply adapted to new media: "The EESC is convinced about the need to combat counterfeiting but we question the methods used," he noted. Several areas are to be addressed, including the issue of remuneration, the meaning of "public performance", the sanctions for illegal exploitation and the functioning of the collecting societies. The discussion will also focus on the importance of strengthening the legal framework and protecting intellectual property rights, which is part of the programme of the Spanish Presidency and a pertinent issue in the EU and worldwide. The participants will include experts from the European institutions, national ministries, EU Member State delegations as well as representatives of publisher houses, music federations, collecting societies, consumer organisations and universities. This wide range of stakeholders creates great expectations for the outcome of this hearing and for future EU initiatives in this field. Caro Marco, non entro nel merito della prima parte del tuo mail perchè proprio di questo vorrei parlare in Nexa. Peraltro, tu sai benissimo cosa pensano i fanatici estremisti come me di WIPO e delle sue iniziative, per non parlare di quella che consideriamo la grande truffa dell' "allargamento delle regole sui farmaci salva vita". Entro invece sul merito della "competenza dell'argomento". Perchè il prodotto artistico rientra e quello industriale no? Solo perchè sembra più facile diffondere il primo via Rete? Ma la Rete è ormai lo strumento principale per la diffusione del sapere scientifico che poi diventa brevetto. Per non parlare delle molte migliaia di brevetti su Internet (c'è una causa legale nella quale si sostiene che tutta l'attività della Rete è una violazione di brevetti precedenti) e dei prodotti proprietari che la Rete ospita, in contrapposizione con i suoi standard aperti. Comunque, se i due direttori concordano, ritiro la mia richiesta, senza far perdere tempo ad altri. Scusa ancora la mia assenza alla riunione di oggi che mi pare molto importante. Her father had directed or produced more than a hundred documentaries. Some of these were quite famous (Nine from Little Rock). Some were well-known even if not known to be by him (Monument to a Dream, the film that plays at the St. Louis arch). Some were forgotten but incredibly important for understanding American history in the twentieth century (A Time for Justice). And some were just remarkably beautiful (D-Day Remembered). So, as curator of his work, Grace Guggenheim decided to remaster the collection and make it all available on DVD, which was then the emerging platform for film.
