Each Firefox download has a unique identifier

Internet users who download the Firefox web browser from the official Mozilla website get a unique identifier attached to the installer that is submitted to Mozilla on install and first run. The identifier, called dltoken by Mozilla internally, is used to link downloads to installations and first runs of the Firefox browser. The identifier is unique to each Firefox installer, which means that it is submitted to Mozilla whenever it is used. [...] This data will allow us to correlate telemetry IDs with download tokens and Google Analytics IDs. [...] According to Mozilla's description, the identifier is used to analyze downloading and installation trends among other things. Ci sono alcune spiegazioni a questo esito. Prima di tutto Watson era basato su tecnologie di 20 anni fa, ormai obsolete con l’avvento del Deep Learning, e dei Transformer Model allenati su enormi collezioni di testi non annotati. Poi i modelli attuali di ML sono efficaci solo su task molto specifici. Credo Watson non fosse in grado di mettere insieme conoscenze da diverse fonti: i successi sbandierati riguardavano casi molto rari di malattie che riusciva a individuare sulla base di una ricerca sui testi di letteratura medica. Oggi si stanno svilupoando sistemi basati su transformers in grado di svolgere contemporaneamente più task, analizzando insieme testi, immagini AWHY in modalità end-to-end. Questo però richiede corpora di allenamento misti e ben annotati, ciò che chiamo Human-in-the-loop e che distingue l’AI dalla semplice statistica, che ancora non sono facili da trovare, specialmente nel settore medico, a causa di questioni di privacy. Insomma occorre trasferire le competenze umane attraverso l’apprendimento dal comportamento degli esperti umani, che si basano su segnali diversi e svariati. IBM aveva tentato di accaparrarsi tali dati con un accordo molto criticato col NHS britannico. In Iitalia aveva tentato la stessa operazione con lo Human Technopole. Mi risulta che la ASL di Bolzano abbia acquistato una versione di Watson, salvo poi accorgersi che Watson era allenato solo su testi inglesi. BIG sabotage: Famous npm package deletes files to protest Ukraine war

This month, the developer behind the popular npm package 'node-ipc' released sabotaged versions of the library in protest of the ongoing Russo-Ukrainian War. Newer versions of the 'node-ipc' package began deleting all data and overwriting all files on developer's machines, in addition to creating new text files with "peace" messages. With over a million weekly downloads, 'node-ipc' is a prominent package used by major libraries like Vue.js CLI. [...] the malicious code, committed as early as March 7th by the dev, would read the system's external IP address and only delete data by overwriting files for users based in Russia and Belarus. The code present within 'node-ipc', specifically in file "ssl-geospec.js" contains base64-encoded strings and obfuscation tactics to mask its true purpose [...] Additionally, because 'node-ipc' versions 9.2.2, 11.0.0, and those greater than 11.0.0 bundle the peacenotwar module within themselves, affected users saw 'WITH-LOVE-FROM-AMERICA.txt' files popping up on their Desktop with "peace" messages [...] "At this point, a very clear abuse and a critical supply chain security incident will occur for any system on which this npm package will be called upon, if that matches a geo-location of either Russia or Belarus," [...] This marks the second major incident of protest by an open source developer this year, following January's 'colors' and 'fakers' self-sabotage incident, as first reported by BleepingComputer. Questa prassi, attribuita a Oracle, mi risulta sia applicata anche da Microsoft: Se una azienda decide di usare Oracle su una infrastruttura cloud di terzi, viene addebitato un costo per ogni CPU che potrebbe "potenzialmente" essere usata per il DB. Questo vuol dire che poco importa se una macchina virtuale ha 64 CPU ma solo 4 vengono destinate al cloud di Oracle: pagano tutte e 64 le CPU, perché potrebbero essere usate e nessuno potrà mai dimostrare il contrario. Tracking Exposed Special Report: TikTok content restriction in Russia

The Tracking Exposed investigation into content restriction in Russia shows that: - On March 7, TikTok made all the content posted by non-Russian channels unavailable to Russian users. This unannounced restriction removes an estimated 95% of the content previously available to Russian TikTok users. - Content restriction is happening at the application layer rather than the transport layer, which requires the direct involvement of TikTok. It is the first time a global social media platform has restricted access to content at this scale. - A network of coordinated accounts is using a loophole to post new content promoting Russian pro-war propaganda in Russia, despite the current ban on new content uploads.
