At the Vodafone-hosted Digitising Europe conference in Berlin, she called for a splitting of services, "one for free internet, and the other for special services", adding that it was up to Brussels to negotiate how it would work. "An innovation-friendly internet means that there is a guaranteed reliability for special services," she said. "These can only develop when predictable quality standards are available". Merkel added that these special services would run over existing internet infrastructure. Social Democratic Party (SPD) MEP Petra Kammerevert told The Local that this would make it more difficult to find a common European position on net neutrality. "If Merkel goes into negotiations with the position she's outlined today, it will be very difficult for the European Council to find a common position," she said. The Council, composed of the heads of state and government of all the EU member countries, must find a common negotiating position to deal with the European Parliament, which voted against a European Commission plan for regulations that would allow a two-tier internet in April. "There is a clear position on this with a big majority in the European Parliament," Kammerevert said. "There should only be special services for closed groups of users under very strict conditions when capacity is sufficient. "Merkel's comments are catastrophic, she's calling for a two-tier internet." 'No longer democratic' Net neutrality campaigners in Germany say that this is another example of Merkel's party, the conservative Christian Democratic Union (CDU), working with the telecommunication lobbyists. "This statement is taking the position of telecommunications firms. This is not the net neutrality we want, but a move towards the creation of a two-tier network where content becomes preferred based on who pays for it to make it so," said Markus Beckedahl, Berlin-based founder of netzpolitik. His colleague, Professor Leonhard Dobusch of the Free University (Freie Universität) in Berlin, agrees. "The revolutionary thing about the web is that the content can be decided on by anyone and, the principle of it, is that anyone can access it. But if you poke holes into net neutrality the way Chancellor Merkel suggests, then it's no longer democratic," he said. Nel caso non ve ne siate ancora accorti, mi permetto di segnalarvi che l'Istituto dell'Enciclopedia Italiana Treccani ha messo online sul suo sito http://www.treccani.it una quantità enorme di contenuti di elevata qualità. Ve lo dico perché magari avete notato il sito (online in questa forma ormai da qualche anno), ma l'effettiva ricchezza di contenuti non è immediatamente percepibile se ci si ferma alla superficie: occorre cercare un po', seguire gli approfondimenti per rendersi conto di quante voci siano disponibili. Non vorrei rischiare l'iperbole, ma a mio avviso è davvero in assoluto uno dei più importanti contributi alla cultura italiana presenti online! ciao, juan carlos

The hotspots allow users to connect up to 10 mobile devices like laptops, tablets, mobile phones, and gaming devices to zippy 4G LTE broadband. The devices, powered by Sprint, usually cost $49 with a two-year service agreement and a $110 a month fee for 30 GB of data. But New York libraries will loan hundreds of them to residents. The catch? They're free with unlimited data as long as the borrower is enrolled in a library program, from citizenship classes to adult literacy. Il libro che non c'è

Ho trovato questa classifica dei migliori libri del 2014 quelli che "received the most mentions from sources including Amazon, Goodreads, and Kirkus, along with Publishers Weekly, The Washington Post, The New York Times, Barnes & Noble, and more": http://blogs.wsj.com/speakeasy/2014/12/04/the-best-books-of-2014-a-compilat… A parte che queste selezioni sono sempre piuttosto soggettive e non sempre scientifiche, quale che mi ha colpito è che nella sezione non-fiction (le altre sarebbero out of topic ai fini di questa lista) non c'è neppure un testo riguardante i big data, i droni, Internet delle cose, insomma, nulla degli argomenti di solito trattati a Nexa, che già copre una branca abbastanza ampia di interessi. Forse stiamo cominciando a dare queste tecnologie per scontate? Non ci emozionamo più davanti alle potenzialità delle novità in arrivo nè ci inquietiamo per le conseguenze che potranno avere? Ecco perchè mi sembrava opportuno segnalare un elenco di libri che tutto sommato non ci interessa, almeno come lista. Buona notte a tutti Diego
