Nella prima parte dell'incontro, dedicata a un'introduzione al valore culturale e agli aspetti giuridici del Pubblico Dominio, interverranno *Paolo Messina*, responsabile delle Biblioteche civiche torinesi, *Federico Morando*, managing director del Centro NEXA, e *Sergio Pace*, responsabile della Biblioteca Centrale di Architettura del Politecnico di Torino. Nella seconda parte dell'incontro si costituirà *una tavola rotonda allargata in cui tutti i partecipanti sono invitati a condividere idee su progetti e iniziative* che, nel corso dell'anno, possano dare rilevanza a questi temi. Dear all, On the occasion of the visit in Italy of the UN Special Rapporteur on the promotion and protection of the right to freedom of opinion and expression, Mr. Frank la Rue, the Centre for Media Pluralism and Media Freedom (CMPF) at the Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies is co-organizing, together with the Open Society Foundations (OSF), a visit at the EUI. In particular the CFPM and OSF are scheduling an international conference on hate speech and the role of the media in balancing freedom of expression and ensuring diversity, which will take place in Florence the 26-27 March 2012. This will be the first official event of the CMPF and we are very glad to have the opportunity to do it in such a frame. The Centre welcomes the submission of papers on topics related to this conference, and we would be more than thankful if you could circulate this information among your colleagues who might be interested in submitting a paper. It should, and sometimes does, reduce prices dramatically by cutting out the need for physical manufacture, stock inventory, distribution and retail middleman. (Which in turn can also make niche genres economically viable.) It can be, and usually is, much more convenient too -- there's no need to mess around with noisy, slow-loading discs or worry about getting them scratched or losing them if all your content is right there on an instantly-accessible hard drive. The only problem with digital is that cedes control of your software library (and therefore all the money you've invested in it) to business, and business is evil. *Germania, Corte costituzionale: “I dati personali su internet sono sacri” * /I magistrati hanno bocciato una parte della legge tedesca sulle telecomunicazioni: polizia e servizi segreti non potranno più accedere ai codici Pin dei cellulari o alle password delle e-mail senza prima chiedere l'autorizzazione di un giudice. Prevista anche una maggiore difesa dell'anonimato dei navigatori / In Germania password, codici PIN e indirizzi IP dinamici sono sacri: le norme che obbligano i provider e le compagnie telefoniche a girarli alla polizia e ai servizi segreti sono incostituzionali. Lo ha stabilito la *Corte costituzionale di Karlsruhe*, che ha bocciato una parte della legge tedesca sulle telecomunicazioni. Finora inquirenti, polizia e servizi segreti potevano accedere senza grossi problemi ai codici PIN dei cellulari o alle password delle e-mail, ad esempio per leggere il contenuto di uno smartphone sequestrato a una persona sospettata di aver commesso un reato o un’infrazione, anche minima, oppure per visionare i suoi messaggi di posta elettronica. Per farlo non era necessario munirsi prima dell’autorizzazione di un giudice: provider e compagnie telefoniche devono salvare tali informazioni e metterle a disposizione degli inquirenti su richiesta.
