E' su slashdot e diverse news, quindi credo che molti l'abbiano già notato, ma una segnalazione in più non credo che guasti: http://search.slashdot.org/story/11/04/05/2238227/Google-Loses-Autocomplete… Da quello che ho capito le conseguenze pratiche immediate non sono un granché, google sembrerebbe solo obbligata a rimuovere quella particolare indicazione nell'autocompletion. Il ragionamento alla base invece mi sembra sempre più pericoloso, considerando qualsiasi sistema di tagging automatico alla pari di uno strumento editoriale, cosa che mi fa rabbrividire in prospettiva. Da imprenditore nel campo internet leggendo queste cose non posso fare a meno che pensare che l'italia è un posto pericoloso in cui operare e che per il bene dell'azienda è meglio allontanarsi quanto prima. Dal "Fatto Quotidiano" di oggi: INTERNET DIRITTO COSTITUZIONALE PASSA LA MOZIONE ALLA PROVINCIA DI ROMA Internet come diritto della Costituzione. Testualmente: “Introdurre nella Costituzione italiana l’articolo 21 bis per garantire a tutti i cittadini il diritto di accedere alla rete Internet”. È quanto chiede la mozione promossa dal Gruppo del Pd e approvata oggi dal Consiglio provinciale di Roma. L’art. 21 bis, proposta dal giurista e costituzionalista Stefano Rodotà, dovrebbe avere la seguente stesura: “Tutti hanno eguale diritto di accedere alla Rete Internet, in condizione di parità, con modalità tecnologicamente adeguate e che rimuovano ogni ostacolo di ordine economico e sociale”. Altri comuni ed enti locali si stanno muovendo per chiedere che l’accesso alla rete diventi un diritto costituzionale. juan carlos

Ciao a tutti, un interessante articolo su Ars Technica a proposito di proprietà intellettuale e prodotti industriali che, IMHO, riporta sul tavolo gli argomenti discussi più di un anno fa nel thread a cui si fa riferimento nel titolo (http://is.gd/ZVjKQv) The next Napster? Copyright questions as 3D printing comes of age - http://is.gd/WTfq7i In realtà era già da un po' che mi aspettavo di leggere un articolo del genere dato che, ormai, i tempi per la "personal fabrication" sono più che maturi. Credo che, grazie a tutte le tecnologie che rendono possibile, a basso costo, la commistione di bit e atomi, questioni come queste, d'ora in avanti, saranno all'ordine del giorno. Vi ricordo che si parla di personal fabrication, di DIY revolution, Arduino e compagnia bella non solo sulla mitica rivista Make (http://makezine.com/) ma anche sull'ultimo numero di Wired (oltre che su diverse altre issue negli scorsi anni): http://www.wired.com/magazine/2011/03/ff_adafruit/ Stampanti 3D, tinkering e mashup "atomici" sono anche l'argomento principale di "Makers" (http://craphound.com/makers/) uno degli ultimi romanzi di Cory Doctorow. Mi aspetto che quando (un giorno sarò molto ricco e per puro divertimento) aprirò un mio negozio in cui venderò oggetti "stampati" con una stampante 3D che ho assemblato da solo a partire da un progetto "open hardware" (cioè che ha tanto di... buh? Licenza? Brevetto? Un-vincolo-giuridico-che-vi-pare "open hardware" "virale") insieme all'oggetto dovrò fornire anche tutta la documentazione necessaria per permettere ai miei clienti di riprodurselo in casa... accompagnata, ovviamente, da una "GPL delle Cose"... ON Tuesday, Denny Chin, a federal judge in Manhattan, rejected the settlement <http://www.nytimes.com/2011/03/23/technology/23google.html> between Google, which aims to digitize every book ever published, and a group of authors and publishers who had sued the company for copyright infringement. This decision is a victory for the public good, preventing one company from monopolizing access to our common cultural heritage. Nonetheless, we should not abandon Google’s dream of making all the books in the world available to everyone. Instead, we should build a digital public library, which would provide these digital copies free of charge to readers. Yes, many problems — legal, financial, technological, political — stand in the way. All can be solved. Let’s consider the legal questions raised by the rejected settlement. Beginning in 2005, Google’s book project made the contents of millions of titles searchable online, leading the Authors Guild and the Association of American Publishers to claim that the snippets made available to readers violated their copyrights. Building on successful previous Summit editions, this NEM Summit will address various issues, such as research and business challenges, societal as well as user needs, implementation requirements, regulatory and standardisation environment, etc., related to the *Implementation of the Future Media Internet*. *NEM Summit 2011* will have four*Tracks* * Immersive and Pervasive Media * Cloud Media * Social Media * User Media *Important dates* * Submission opening: 30 March 2011 * Paper submission deadline: 16 May 2011 * Notification of acceptance: 1 July 2011 * Deadline for final papers: 1 September 2011 All stakeholders of networked and electronic media are invited to submit scientific, technical as well as business-oriented papers addressing topics defined within NEM Summit Tracks descriptions below. The submissions should present original work, innovative ideas, and results, including description of on-going activities and development of related products, services, and applications for increasing the competitiveness. *Immersive and Pervasive Media* The Future Internet not only will become pervasive in the sense that the number of connected devices will grow by orders of magnitude; it will also carry all sorts of media with an unprecedented quality. Forecasts predict that in less than 5 years 80--90% of the carried payload will be media. Immersiveness is dramatically increased by quality improvements: Panoramic or Giant Images and Movies, Higher Dynamic Range, Ultra High Resolution, Plano-stereoscopic, Multiview or Free Viewpoint Video and Wave Field Synthesis, Ambisonics and Multichannel Audio will boost the credibility and "reality" of media rendering. Pervasiveness, on the other hand, brings the content to the user and into his/her context. Dynamic and scalable content coding, media integration into browsers through HTML5, adaptivity considering location and device characteristics are important ingredients for making media even more pervasive. The *topics of interest* for the track contributions include, but are not limited to, the following: * Technologies for transport, coding and rendering (content-centric networks, spatial and ultra high resolution sound and video, scalable and hierarchical coding, rendering of audio and video over the device continuum) * Applications and services: Digital Cinema, (3D)IPTV, Giant Image and Movie Browsing, Scalable Rendering, Browser-based media applications, 3D integration into browsers *Cloud Media* Being the finest meshed communication network ever available, the Internet offers an unprecedented number of services that can be shared amongst participants. Cloud Computing has been a hot topic during the last years: Whether sharing of information via P2P networks like Torrent or shifting complete Office Suites into the Cloud, using storage and processing power in the cloud has become state-of-the-art and is now ready for Media! P2P networks as well as the Content Delivery Networks are now evolving towards media and new architectures for storing, replicating and transporting media into and out of the cloud are required. Additionally, the accumulated processing power in the cloud enables innovative media applications in the area of Smart TV (TV 3.0) through visual analytics, object recognition, retrieval in media data-bases and device specific transcoding. The *topics of interest* for the track contributions include, but are not limited to, the following: * Architectures and technologies for media content storage, replication and transport of media into and out of the cloud (P2P streaming, media content delivery networks) * Architectures and technologies for cloud computing for media (visual analytics in the cloud, content transcoding, media content retrieval) * Applications and services for cloud media *Social Media* Networked Electronic Media are more than a simple ingredient of future social media services: They are evolving to become the heart of Social Media: Videos are shared via YouTube and Facebook, video is increasingly added to voice communication in Skype, Windows Messenger or Office Communicator and networked games significantly increase their share in the electronic games domain. This track is dedicated to developments, innovative applications and business models in and around Social Media. Social media have significantly shaped the way citizens communicate. Even more than mobile phones, which made a well known communication service available ubiquitously, Social Media have influenced the daily life: People can spend more than 1 hour per day in Social Media and Facebook in December 2010 for the first time has been the most visited Website worldwide. User generated content has grown to an unforeseen magnitude and will continue to grow. Conducted with the assistance of a dozen university partners of the Salzburg Academy on Media & Global Change the study asked 1000 students in 10 countries on five continents to gave up all media for 24 hours. After their daylong abstinence, the students recorded their experiences. In total, students wrote almost half a million words--about the same number of words as Leo Tolstoy's War and Peace. The world Unplugged study concluded that most college students, whether in developed or developing countries, are strikingly similar in how they use media. Student after student spoke about their generation's utter dependency on media - especially the mobile phone. And they also talked about how they think about news. Said one student, from Slovakia: “We are used to having information about everything on the planet and this information we have to have in an unbelievable time. Our generation doesn’t need certified and acknowledged information.
