The unprecedented proposal would allow certain governments to demand the contents of Internet communications such as e-mails and chats directly from US companies, rather than going through cross-border law enforcement treaties that have long been in place to protect rights. *Will Germany's new law kill free speech online?* By Patrick Evans BBC News /in October a new law comes into force in Germany that will impose huge fines on social networks if they don't delete illegal content including hate speech. It's touched off a huge debate over freedom of expression and has attracted an unusual collection of opponents.// / The law is called Netzwerkdurchsetzungsgesetz - NetzDG for short. It obliges the biggest social networks - those with more than two million German users - to take down "blatantly illegal" hate speech within 24 hours of it being reported. For material that's less obviously violating the law, networks such as Facebook and Instagram will have seven days to consider and, if appropriate, delete posts. Failure to meet these deadlines could lead to fines of up to €50m. Critics argue the short timeframes coupled with the potentially large fines will lead social networks to be overly cautious and delete huge amounts of content - even things that are perfectly legal. But the law's supporters, and the German government, argue that it will force social media companies to proactively deal with online incitement and hate speech. Siete invitati a candidarvi per le posizioni aperte. grazie dell'attenzione, a presto Arturo -----------------------------------------> Second Italian Conference on Cybersecurity (ITASEC18) Milan, February 6-9, 2018 www.itasec.it @itasec18 == About ITASEC 2018 == The Second Italian Conference on Cyber Security (ITASEC18) is an annual event supported by the CINI Cybersecurity National Laboratory that aims at putting together Italian researchers and professionals from academia, industry, and government working in the field of cyber security. The conference will be structured into a main cyber security science and technology (S&T) main track, a “fil rouge” track including a sequence of multidisciplinary sessions from economic sciences, political sciences, laws etc on a specific hot topic in cyber security, and a demo track devoted to prototypes developed by companies, research centers and universities. This year, the fil rouge track main topic will be “Cyber and Information Conflicts: strategic, tactical, policy and law aspects". ITASEC18 also invites submissions for tutorial proposals on all topics of potential interest to the conference attendees. The conference will also include special sessions on domestic cybersecurity startups and on cybersecurity hacking community. The conference will also feature few selected distinguished keynote speeches and panels. ITASEC18 will take place at the Milan Polytechnic University, from February 6 to February 9, 2018. == Submissions and proceedings == We solicit two kinds of submissions for all tracks: original, unpublished contributions that will be included in an open-access proceeding volume of CEUR Workshop Proceedings; already published or preliminary works that will not be included in the proceedings volume. We particularly encourage submissions on new and emerging topics. Authors are requested to clearly indicate whether their paper should be included in the proceedings volume or not. Papers submitted to the S&T and demo tracks, as well as tutorial proposals must be in English. For the fil rouge track the language can be either English or Italian. Papers have to be submitted in pdf format and should be formatted using the EasyChair style. Papers submitted to S&T and fil rouge tracks must be no longer than 10 pages, including bibliography. Extra material exceeding the page limit can be included in a clearly marked appendix of at most 5 pages. Papers submitted to the demo track must be no longer than 5 pages. A walk-through of the actual demonstration should be provided in a clearly marked appendix of at most 5 pages. The conference will host a one-day (February 6, 2018) tutorial program on cybersecurity and some "embedded tutorials" in the following days.
