Potremmo chiedere consiglio a qualche Stato democratico, come la Corea del Nord, ad esempio. Erano stati chiari gli esponenti dell’Autorità prima di varare il Regolamento Agcom sulla rimozione dei contenuti sul web, (senza passare per il Parlamento peraltro), a partire dal Presidente stesso dell’Agcom, Cardani, in audizione presso le competenti Commissioni parlamentari. E invece uno straordinario numero di blog, forum di discussione, siti privati, di pubbliche amministrazioni, per non parlare dei provider oggetto di continui ordini di rimozione, sono raggiunti da “gentili” inviti dell’Agcom a rimuovere conversazioni, link, e come vedremo anche blog. In questi giorni un blog in particolare, chiamato “autoconoscenza” sparisce dal web a seguito di un ordine dell’Agcom. Agcom, come si vede dal provvedimento allegato, ordina la rimozione per ragioni di copyright, perché in un post del titolare del blog vengono menzionate le risposte di un test sulla conoscenza (il solito eufemismo, l’adeguamento spontaneo) su cui vi sarebbe il copyright. Ma a sparire è l’intero blog contenente riflessioni, come avviene in tutti i blog del mondo, con decine e decine di pagine di parole del tutto innocenti sparse per tutti i mesi e gli anni da quando esiste. Non interverremo mai sui forum. Non chiederemo mai la cancellazione di contenuti dai blog. Scusate la segnalazione tardiva (l'articolo apparso sul New Yorker a giugno), ma è uno di quei testi che purtroppo è rimasto a lungo un tab aperto ma non letto... Peccato perché meritava invece che lo leggessi subito: si tratta infatti di una delle più belle demolizioni del concetto di "innovazione" e, soprattutto, di "disruptive innovation", la teoria del prof. Clayton M. Christensen di Harvard. Tech companies that were dying would hire temps—college students and new graduates—to do what little was left of the work of the employees they’d laid off. This was in Cambridge, near M.I.T. I’d type users’ manuals, save them onto 5.25-inch floppy disks, and send them to a line printer that yammered like a set of prank-shop chatter teeth, but, by the time the last perforated page coiled out of it, the equipment whose functions those manuals explained had been discontinued. We’d work a month here, a week there. There wasn’t much to do. Mainly, we sat at our desks and wrote wishy-washy poems on keyboards manufactured by Digital Equipment Corporation, left one another sly messages on pink While You Were Out sticky notes, swapped paperback novels—Kurt Vonnegut, Margaret Atwood, Gabriel García Márquez, that kind of thing—and, during lunch hour, had assignations in empty, unlocked offices. At Polaroid, I once found a Bantam Books edition of “Steppenwolf” in a clogged sink in an employees’ bathroom, floating like a raft. “In his heart he was not a man, but a wolf of the steppes,” it said on the bloated cover. The rest was unreadable. Not long after that, I got a better assignment: answering the phone for Michael Porter, a professor at the Harvard Business School. I was an assistant to his assistant. In 1985, Porter had published a book called “Competitive Advantage,” in which he elaborated on the three strategies—cost leadership, differentiation, and focus—that he’d described in his 1980 book, “Competitive Strategy.” I almost never saw Porter, and, when I did, he was dashing, affably, out the door, suitcase in hand. My job was to field inquiries from companies that wanted to book him for speaking engagements. “The Competitive Advantage of Nations” appeared in 1990. Porter’s ideas about business strategy reached executives all over the world. Porter was interested in how companies succeed. The scholar who in some respects became his successor, Clayton M. *How can we ensure robots make the right decisions?* By Sandor Veres Dec 9 2014 Your autonomous vacuum cleaner cleans your floors and there is no great harm if it occasionally bounces into things or picks up a button or a scrap of paper with a phone number. But then again this latter case is irritating – it would be preferable if the machine was capable of noticing there was something written on it and alert you. A human cleaner would do that. If your child has a toy robot, you are not worried much about its wheels, arms or eyes going wild occasionally during play. It can be just more fun for the kids. You know the toy has been designed not to have enough force to cause any harm. But what about a factory robot designed for picking up cars pieces and fitting them into a car? Clearly you’d not want to be nearby when it goes berserk. You know it’s been pre-programmed to do particular tasks and it may not welcome your proximity. This kind of robot is often caged or barred-off, even for operating personnel. But what about the case of some future autonomous robot with which you need to work in order to assemble something, or complete some other task?
