Ciao a tutti/e, per chi di voi fosse già familiare con il lavoro di esperti in Commissione europea, vi segnalo una richiesta proveniente dalla rappresentanza della Commissione in Sud Africa. Come APRE ci è stato chiesto di segnalare alcuni nomi. Fatemi sapere (rispondendo solo a me) se credete possiate essere interessati a qualcuna delle seguenti aree. First ACM Workshop on Information Sharing and Collaborative Security Sharing of security related information is believed to greatly enhance the ability of organizations to defend themselves against sophisticated attacks. If one organization detects a breach the automated sharing of observed security indicators (such as IP addresses, domain names etc.) provide valuable, actionable information to others. Through analyzing shared data it seems possible to get much better insights into emerging attacks. Sharing higher level intelligence about campaigns, threat actors and mitigations is also of great interest. Both in the US and the EU there are major efforts underway to strengthen information sharing. Yet there are a number of technical and policy challenges to realizing this vision. Which information exactly should be shared? How can privacy and confidentiality be protected? How can we create high-fidelity intelligence from shared data without getting overwhelmed by false positives? The first Workshop on Information Sharing and Collaborative Security (WISCS 2014) aims to bring together experts and practitioners from academia, industry and government to present innovative research, case studies, and legal and policy issues. The workshop solicits original research papers in these areas. Workshop proceedings will be published in the ACM Digital Library. Topics of interest for the workshop include, but are not limited to: * Collaborative intrusion detection * Case studies for information sharing * Domain name and IP address blacklisting * Collaborative approaches to spear-phishing and DDoS attacks * Data deidentification * Privacy and confidentiality * Cryptographic protocols for collaborative security * Scalability of security analysis on shared data * Ontologies and standards for sharing security data * Human factors in collaboration * Policy and legal issues * Surveillance issues * Trust models * Attacks on information sharing * Economics of security collaboration See: https://sites.google.com/site/wiscs2014/ for further details.

About Justin Justin Reich is an educational researcher interested in the future of learning in a networked world. He is the Richard L. Menschel HarvardX Research Fellow, based in the Office of the President and Provost at Harvard University, exploring the possibilities and limits of online learning through the HarvardX platform. He is also a Fellow at the Berkman Center for Internet and Society, and a visiting lecturer in the Scheller Teacher Education Program at MIT. Biography of Jean-Claude Guédon Prof. Jean-Claude Guédon began his career at Glendon College (York University) in Toronto, Ontario in 1970 and has been a professor at the Université de Montréal since 1973, first in the Institut d'histoire et de sociopolitique des sciences, and, since 1987, in the Département de littérature comparée. He is a long-time member of the Internet Society serving as co-chair of the program committee in 1996, 1998 and 2000, and member of the same committee in 1997, 1999 and 2002. In 1991, with Bill Reading and Walter Moser, he launched the first electronic scholarly journal in Canada: Surfaces. Between 1998 and 2003, he was Chair of the Advisory Board for CNSLP (Canadian National Site Licence Project, now known as CRKN (Canadian Research Knowledge network). From 2002 until 2006, he was a member of OSI's Information Program sub-board. Between 2003 and 2007, he was a member of the Advisory Board of eIFL (Electronic Information for Libraries). In 2006 he was elected (until November 2008) Vice-President of the Canadian Society for the Humanities and Social Sciences. He has advised numerous governmental bodies, including the Ministère de la Recherche (France) for their e-publication project in the humanities and the social sciences; the Agence de la francophonie for matters pertaining to new technologies; the Quebec Minister of Communication in charge of the information highway; and the Quebec Ministry of education for the integration of the new technologies into the curriculum. He regularly acts as expert for the European Commission. He is also on the editorial board of several journals, and his three books are all available in Italian. Consumers could simply switch providers whenever Netflix or YouTube started to get choppy. And that would give Netflix and YouTube more leverage in their deals with the ISPs. At the moment, this option---where ISPs are treated as "common carriers"---is on the table, but it seems like a remote possibility. Maybe it shouldn't be. Instead of railing against fast lanes, we should be pushing Washington to explore ideas like this that could actually promote competition among ISPs. "Knowledge commons" describes the institutionalized community governance of the sharing and, in some cases, creation, of information, science, knowledge, data, and other types of intellectual and cultural resources. It is the subject of enormous recent interest and enthusiasm with respect to policymaking about innovation, creative production, and intellectual property. Taking that enthusiasm as its starting point, Governing Knowledge Commons argues that policymaking should be based on evidence and a deeper understanding of what makes commons institutions work. It offers a systematic way to study knowledge commons, borrowing and building on Elinor Ostrom's Nobel Prize-winning research on natural resource commons. It proposes a framework for studying knowledge commons that is adapted to the unique attributes of knowledge and information, describing the framework in detail and explaining how to put it into context both with respect to commons research and with respect to innovation and information policy. Eleven detailed case studies apply and discuss the framework exploring knowledge commons across a wide variety of scientific and cultural domains. This seminar is organized in cooperation with the Joint Research Activity on "Governance, Regulation and Standards" of the EINS European Network of Excellence in Internet Science <www.internet-science.eu>. Biography of Brett Frischmann Brett Frischmann is Professor of Law at the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, Yeshiva University, where he teaches intellectual property and Internet law. He is currently the Director of Cardozo's IP and Information Law Program, an Affiliated Scholar of the Center for Internet and Society at Stanford Law School, and an Affiliated Faculty Member of The Vincent and Elinor Ostrom Workshop in Political Theory and Policy Analysis, Indiana University. n March 2012, he published Infrastructure: The Social Value of Shared Resources <http://www.amazon.com/Infrastructure-Social-Value-Shared-Resources/dp/01999…>, with Oxford University Press.
