Last week, Reliance BIG Pictures got a broad "John Doe" court order from the Delhi High Court to force ISPs to block file sharing websites <http://www.medianama.com/2011/07/223-files-sharing-sites-blocked-in-india-b…> that were sharing the film /Singham <http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1948150/>/. The order requires ISPs to prevent users from accessing /Singham/, rather than to block specific sites, but the end effect is the same. Users of Airtel Broadband, Zylog and MTNL Triband found themselves unable to access file sharing sites such as MediaFire. Meanwhile in the UK, the High Court has ordered BT, the UK's leading telecoms company and ISP, to block a single site, Newzbin 2 <http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1948150/> at the request of the Motion Picture Association (MPA). The MPA is the international counterpart of the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) and represents big Hollywood studios such as Warner, Disney and Fox. A.R.Meo >non sono un giurista, ma, a mio giudizio, Nexa è un soggetto >istituzionale. Tra l'altro, è gestito direttamente da un >ateneo. Prendo il mano il tuo coltello e lo giro nella piaga. --- "NEXA" e' "il" nodo locale di rete "eccellente" di monitoraggio critico delle tante legiferazioni creative a proposito di liberta' di parola in rete. E questo e' un *fatto*. L' altro fatto e' che AGCOM e' la piu' equivoca disperata e impotente scorciatoia politica a proposito di liberta' di espressione in rete. I documenti NEXA del 3 Marzo e GARR del 4 Maggio sono sostanzialmente inconfutati perche' inconfutabili. Ci mancherebbe solo adesso di discutere subalternamente ancora una volta a quale porta di servizio bussare. --- Quarantadue anni fa' al termine di una tesa riunione fra federmeccanica e metalmeccanici, i sindacati, invertendo tradizione, invitando LORO Confindustria alla PROPRIA sede. La mia opinione e' che NEXA convochi al limite dei novanta giorni gli "stati generali" sulla liberta' di espressione in rete : coinvolgendo associazioni provider, isoc ... E ... invitando AGCOM - semplice. --- Ogni tanto, anche in tecnica mobile di guerriglia, bisogna pur meditare di fissare una trincea, se accettiamo metodologicamente un ruolo AGCOM io dico disallineatissimo di "collettore di consulenze" - riproducimo indefinitamente e MERITIAMO ogni marginalita'. E ll mio ragionamento di fondo Raf e' che in QUESTO passaggio NEXA promuova sul tema PROPRIO quel COSTITUENTE "congresso degli scienziati" di cui parlava Pisacane http://public.it/federalismo/default.htm Giorgio :::::::

This Time From HADOPI from the /damn-that-data/ dept We've pointed out that a whole series of studies <http://www.techdirt.com/articles/20110721/04092915191/industry-suppressed-r…> have all suggested that the biggest infringers of content online also tend to be the best customers of content, rather than just "freeloaders" who refuse to pay for content. Critics of these studies brush them off (without any evidence) by simply saying if that were true, then sales of content wouldn't have dropped so much in the music industry (other industries, it should be noted, have not seen such a drop-off). But that's misunderstanding (or misapplying) basic statistics. No one is saying that this means that file sharing automatically leads to more sales. But it does suggest that treating those people as just "freeloaders who just want stuff for free" is absolutely the wrong response. It shows that these people are /willing/ to pay money if they're given a good /reason to buy/. The problem is that they're /not/.
