AI will destroy democracy and our social fabric, and possibly even drive us to extinction. While legitimate concerns drive these fears, we need to equally account for the fact that tech affords young people something incredibly valuable—a rare space for self-actualization. In /From Pessimism to Promise/, award-winning author Payal Arora explains that outside the West, where most of the world’s youth reside, there is a significantly different outlook on tech: in fact, there is a contagion of optimism toward all things digital. These users, especially those in marginalized contexts, are full of hope for new tech. As AI disrupts sectors across industries, education, and beyond, who better to shine the light forward, Arora argues, than the Global South, the navigator of all manner of forced disruptions, leapfrogging obstructive systems, norms, and practices to rapidly reinvent itself? The CEPE conference series is recognized as one of the premier international events on computer and information ethics attended by delegates from all over the world. CEPE is held biennially, and is organized by INSEIT (the International Society for Ethics and Information Technology). Conferences are held about every 24 months, alternating between Europe and the United States. The next CEPE Conference will be held at the University of Rome, Tor Vergata; Department of History, Cultural Heritage, Education and Society from September, 24th to 26th, 2025, in collaboration with the Ionian University Research Team, IHRC (Information: History, Regulation and Culture) and The University for Peace UNO Rome branch. The main theme is: *Artificial Intelligence: Normative Implications and Philosophical Challenges* As AI continues to pervade various aspects of human life, from healthcare to governance, it brings forth a plethora of normative questions and philosophical dilemmas that demand rigorous examination and reflection. [ NoC] Exciting November and December Events and Learning Calls

Organized by the NoC Secretariat and NoC Centers, these events promise to offer insightful and energizing discussions to prepare us for the work ahead in 2025: 1. First, co-hosted with the Digital Law Center, Taxing AI: A Tool for AI Governance will take place on November 26th, 5:00 PM CET (11:00 AM EST).
