Opportunities for emerging scholars in AI and society

This is a friendly reminder to invite emerging scholars to submit proposals for the 2nd Global AI + Regulation Emerging Scholars Workshop, as well as the Poster Session on AI and Society (in French or English) that will be hosted in Ottawa, ON as satellite events to the inaugural Ian R. Kerr Memorial Lecture<https://techlaw.uottawa.ca/events/ian-r-kerr-memorial-lecture-2023> on October 18, and an international AI and society conference<https://techlaw.uottawa.ca/aisociety/conference> on October 19-20.
Global AI + Regulation Emerging Scholars Workshop (with Paper Award) (English)
Emerging scholars in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) and regulation will have the opportunity to discuss their draft paper with leading scholars in the field of AI and the law, as well as from the other participants of the workshop, such that feedback could be incorporated before the paper is submitted for publication. The workshop aims to foster collaboration and knowledge exchange among scholars in the field of artificial intelligence and regulation, and provide emerging researchers with valuable feedback on draft papers on the development of legal frameworks and regulatory measures for the safe and responsible use of AI.
Deadline: July 16, 2023.
Format: A title and an abstract of up to 2,500 characters.
Public: Graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and other junior researchers
Funding: Thanks to the Scotiabank Fund and IDRC, funding is available to allow to attend the workshop; especially for researchers from the majority world/low and middle-income countries.

Poster Session on AI and Society (with Poster Award) (English or French)
The international AI and society conference<https://techlaw.uottawa.ca/aisociety/conference> on October 19-20 will also feature a bilingual (French/English) poster session showcasing the latest research and developments in AI and society, allowing for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows to discuss their work and exchange ideas with a diverse audience.
We seek submissions from a wide range of disciplines, promoting interdisciplinary authorship and collaborations between developers of AI and related technologies, and researchers in the humanities, social sciences, ethics, law, and policy. We particularly welcome poster submissions that focus on framing the ethical, legal, and societal implications of AI by leveraging a transdisciplinary approach, and submissions that foster interdisciplinary collaboration and knowledge exchange in the domain of AI.
Deadline: July 16, 2023.
Format: A title and an abstract, in French or English, of up to 2,500 characters.
