*The Call for Proposals is now open until 7 August*
Hosted by the Digital Data Institute at Harvard, the OpenForum Academy
(OFA) Symposium 2024 will bring together researchers and practitioners
from all walks of the Open Source research ecosystem at an
interdisciplinary conference.

The OpenForum Academy (OFA) Symposium 2024 will look at the theme of
‘Open Source in the Global Digital Economy’, exploring the ways in which
open source adds economic and social value to businesses and nations
across the globe. By transcending geographical boundaries and becoming
an integral part of the common digital infrastructure, open source
brings the values of cooperation, transparency and innovation to the fore.
Submissions for the Symposium Call for Proposals (CfP) are now open
until 7 August. We are seeking proposals from academics and
practitioners alike, which advance our understanding of open source and
open technologies. Presenting at the Symposium will give you the
opportunity to engage with the leading voices of the open source
ecosystem and link research agendas. The Symposium is interdisciplinary
and is open to a wide range of topics. Areas of importance this year
include but are not limited to:
1. Contribution of open source on macroeconomic value creation
2. The effects of market regulation on the development of open source
software
3. Funding of open source development and maintenance by public and
private actors
4. The role of open technologies in a competitive technology market
5. Microeconomic factors influencing open source adoption by SMEs
6. The contribution of open source to public sector value creation
In 2023, the OFA Symposium took place at TU Berlin
<https://openforumeurope.us10.list-manage.com/track/click?u=92e540ce342922d8…>,
moving to the Digital Data Design Institute at Harvard
<https://openforumeurope.us10.list-manage.com/track/click?u=92e540ce342922d8…> this
year. By exploring the questions of the worldwide reach of open tech,
the OFA Symposium will grow the societal understanding of the value of
the open source ecosystem as a whole. The conference will bring together
a diverse body of speakers and participants, including researchers,
practitioners, policymakers, developers, and activists.
