C A L L F O R A P P L I C A T I O N S *IMPACT SCHOOL – Science Transfer in the 21st century * There is a pressing need for informed expertise from virtually all fields of academic research. Still, scientific expertise often remains within its own domain and only reaches relevant decision-makers in civil society indirectly and belatedly. This three-day training programme is tailored to up-and-coming researchers that want to learn the skills necessary to maximize the impact of their research, also—but not exclusively—in relation to evaluation procedures of science funders. The sessions will be held by experts in their respective fields and cover the three dimensions of scholarly impact: societal impact, economic impact, and political impact. 29 November – 1 December 2017 Alexander von Humboldt Institute for Internet and Society (HIIG) Französische Straße 9 | 10117 Berlin *Participants:* The training is aimed at up-and-coming researchers from all disciplines (e.g., PhD students, Post-Docs, junior faculty). In the course of the training, participants will understand concepts and tools of science impact as well as science transfer and learn how to apply them to their own research. *Call for Applications:* Participants are asked to apply with a letter of interest, giving a brief overview of one of their own research topics and how the training could increase the societal impact of their research (approx. 500 words). The impact school is limited to 25 participants. Participants can apply for a travel allowance of up to 200 € (depending on the expenditures that will be actually incurred). CfP Computers, Privacy and Data Protection (CPDP) 2018 – The Internet of Bodies http://www.cpdpconferences.org/callforpapers.html CPDP is an annual three-day conference devoted to privacy and data protection. The 11th edition of CPDP will be held on 24-26 January 2018 in Brussels. Whilst a number of speakers are specifically invited by the conference, several slots remain open to application through an annual call for papers. The CPDP2018 Call for Papers is addressed to all researchers who wish to present their papers at the next Computers, Privacy and Data Protection conference. The call is split into two different tracks. The first is dedicated to experienced researchers (i.e. from postdoctoral researchers on), while the second welcomes PhD students and other junior researchers. Contributions are welcome from all disciplines with perspectives on the themes of the conference. The dual-track structure of the CPDP2018 Call for Papers aims to meet the increasing interest of researchers – from all levels and from multiple disciplines – in CPDP and their expectations in terms of academic feedback and exchange. Data collection increasingly focuses on the physical body. Bodies are increasingly connected, digitized and informatized. In turn, the data extracted is reassembled in ways that give rise to significant questions – challenging fundamental assumptions about where the corporeal ends and the informational begins. Biometrics, genetic data processing and the quantified self are only some of the trends and technologies reaching into the depths of our bodies. Emerging technologies such as human enhancement, neural implants and brain wave technology look likely to soon become a daily reality. RELEVANT FIELDS AND TOPICS The CPDP Scientific Committee invites papers in the fields of law, social sciences, philosophy and computer sciences (as well as other relevant fields). Multidisciplinary papers are particularly welcome. In particular, this call aims to reach researchers whose works relate to new technologies, privacy and data protection. Selected researchers will have the valuable opportunity to present their papers in the conference academic sessions. The main theme highlighted this year is “The Internet of Bodies”, but we welcome any original topics related to the general themes of the conference and especially encourage technology-focused and interdisciplinary submissions. Dear All, You may already have heard that the right to privacy was recently questioned before the Indian Supreme Court. The judges will soon rule on whether it exists and how far it stretches. *With the usual apology for cross-posting* PLSC-EUROPE 2018 CALL FOR PAPERS PLSC-Europe 2018 will be held in Brussels on Saturday 27 January 2018, right after CPDP2018 (http://www.cpdpconferences.org) CPDP - Computers, Privacy & Data Protection conference - is an annual gathering of academics, lawyers, practitioners, policy-makers, industry, and civil society from all over the world. Its 11th edition, "The Internet of Bodies", will take place from Wednesday 24 January to Friday 26 January 2018. PLSC-Europe will follow on Saturday 27 January 2018. Based on the popular Privacy Law Scholars Conference (PLSC) event in the United States, PLSC-Europe is dedicated to bringing together privacy law scholars, practitioners, and privacy scholars from other disciplines from across Europe and beyond to discuss current issues. PLSC-Europe aims at fostering greater connections between academia and practice (industry, legal, advocacy, and government), and at bringing together law scholars with academics and professionals from other disciplines (e.g. economics, philosophy, political science, computer science). The first PLSC-Europe was held in October 2015 in conjunction with the Amsterdam Privacy Conference, and the second one in May 2017, in conjunction with TILTing Perspectives 2017. From 2017 onwards, PLSC-Europe became a regular event co-organized by the University of Amsterdam (IvIR), Tilburg University (TILT), and the Free University Brussels (LSTS/Privacy Salon), alternating between Amsterdam, Tilburg, and Brussels. The third edition of PLSC-Europe will be held on 27 January 2018 in Brussels. PLSC is a paper workshop. Papers are not available, and proceedings will not be released. The papers discussed are works in progress, and so will not be publicly released, nor publicized: the ideas presented by the authors are often still developing, and need further incubation before being finalised. In a PLSC paper workshop, a "commenter" leads a discussion among participants on an author's paper. Authors are encouraged to listen to the discussion, rather than steer it or participate actively to it. There are no panels or keynotes at PLSC: the idea is to help the author by giving feedback and advice on the paper. Workshops are informal and friendly in nature.
