L'aspetto della difficoltà di attribuzione dell'eventuale interferenza è reale già adesso. Molto spesso ci sono indizi importanti nei casi di cracking elettronico, ma quando fatto da professionisti, questi indizi sono quasi sempre inconcludenti. (Richiede una discussione separata, ma l'adozione recente di una strategia offensiva di cyber-attacco da parte degli USA è particolarmente preoccupante proprio per questo.) Nel 2014 c'è stata una conversazione interessante sulla mailing list, relativa ai sistemi di voto elettronico.
