Dear all, We hope this email finds you all well. We’re writing to share with you an interactive web page constructed to highlight our AI & inclusion work -- a centerpiece of which is the Global Symposium on AI & Inclusion. https://aiandinclusion.org/ We’ve created this output as a means to showcase the important research, findings, and ideas both that went into the symposium and that came out of it and will continue to influence the AI and inclusion work of the NoC and the Ethics & Governance of AI initiative ongoing at the Berkman Klein Center in partnership with the MIT Media Lab. We invite you to peruse the web page, and in particular the Global Symposium on AI & Inclusion section, for a comprehensive look at how the symposium -- which, as you know, convened 170 participants from over 40 countries in Rio to discuss the most significant opportunities and challenges of AI -- has influenced our AI & inclusion work. We are deeply grateful to this network for the support to embark on such a unique, flagship event that we collectively made possible. The connections fostered and dialogues initiated at the symposium have already begun influencing our AI & inclusion work, as evident throughout this webpage, and we look forward to hearing your thoughts and feedback from this output on how we can continue to strengthen that network and build from this event. Visiting fellows will be hosted at the Institute for a period of one to three months. They will have the opportunity to conduct research on-site in Berlin, one of Europe’s most vibrant cities. Our aim is to establish and to cultivate fruitful collaborations between the Weizenbaum Institute and researchers around the globe, thus helping to position it as a leading research institution world-wide. For our visiting scholars, the Weizenbaum Institute offers an inspiring multi- disciplinary research environment with access to other leading research institutions. Researchers are asked to submit their applications addressed to the specific research group with which they would like to be associated. We would like to ask to circulate among NoC Centres the call for application of the 7th edition of our summer school for journalists and media practitioners. This year the focus will be on "Journalism in the era of algorithms and artificial intelligence" and it will take place in Florence, Italy, on 11-15 June 2018. We are offering *twenty (20) scholarships* to attend the summer school that cover travel expenses (up to 300 EUR), accommodation for 5 nights, tuition fees, all course materials, access to the EUI library, Wi-Fi access at the EUI, social activities, lunches and coffee breaks on lecture days. Dear All, [Apologies for cross-posting] We wish to remind you that the Center For Cyber, Law and Policy (CCLP) recently announced its 2018 Call for Proposals. Please not that applications are also open for researchers who received CCLP grants in 2017. This year CCLP offers three tracks to apply for: 1. Research Track Eligibility: Faculty members of any accredited academic institution in Israel or abroad and prominent academics or professional experts working in collaboration with a faculty member as Co-PIs on a joint proposal. Applications can also be submitted by a single researcher. Funding: up to NIS 100,000 (approx. USD 29,000). 1. Interdisciplinary Track Eligibility: Faculty members of any accredited academic institution in Israel or abroad and prominent academics or professional experts working in collaboration with a faculty member as Co-PIs on a joint proposal. The proposal must feature a team of a computer science researcher and a law/policy related researcher (in fields such as law, social science, political science, humanities, education, economics, etc.). Applications can also be submitted by a single researcher. Funding: up to NIS 200,000 (approx. USD 58,000). Funding may exceed this sum at the discretion of CCLP based on the quality of the proposed research, its applicability, and available resources. 1. Fellows Track Eligibility: Faculty, Fellows and Doctoral Students, of any accredited academic institution in Israel or abroad, interested in pursuing a research project towards an academic publication (e.g., peer review journal, book, patent). Applications can also be submitted by a single researcher. Funding: up to NIS 60,000 (approx. USD 17,500).
