More than one? Does it matter to you who knows it? As digital systems become more integrated into our lives, these questions are becoming very important. We're in the midst of a literal identity crisis where your identity is quickly becoming, rather than something you define, a social construct that is granted to you. This talk will explore the philosophy of names and identity, the digital systems we've created over the past decades, and the challenges that arise when the systems come into conflict with individual safety and freedom. We'll take a look at the current state of name-related policy within both companies and government, and introduce ongoing efforts to make sure your identity is not just a number in a computer. About aestetix After being suspended twice by Google Plus during the nymwars fiasco of 2011, aestetix helped created NymRights, focused on empowerment and education of digital identity. He's spoken on this topic at events in Germany, New York City, San Francisco, including hacker conferences, digital rights events, and even a few universities. He's also been involved in the National Strategy for Trusted Identities in Cyberspace (NSTIC), an Obama strategy to try to solve identity related challenges in areas like medicine and social security.
Cari Amici del Centro Nexa, con piacere vi invitiamo alla giornata di studio su Open Access e scienza aperta: stato dell’arte e strategie per il futuro, che si terrà il 20 ottobre a Trento (Universita´di Trento - Facolta´di Giurisprudenza). L’Università di Trento è da anni concretamente impegnata nell’attuazione dell’OA. Si è dotata di un archivio istituzionale ad accesso aperto integrato nell’anagrafe della ricerca, ha aderito tramite la firma della Dichiarazione di Messina alla Dichiarazione di Berlino sull’accesso aperto alla letteratura scientifica, ha delineato una propria cornice normativa (statuto, codice etico, policy), ha avviato alcune esperienze di editoria ad accesso aperto. È in questo contesto che il Rettorato e la Facoltà di Giurisprudenza dell’Università di Trento, in occasione della celebrazione del suo trentennale, promuovono una giornata di studi nell’ambito della Open Access Week 2014, la settimana che a livello internazionale sensibilizza il pubblico sul tema dell’accesso aperto. Il convegno è dedicato a divulgare e chiarire lo stato dell’arte, ascoltare la voce degli intermediari del mercato dell’informazione scientifica, confrontare le esperienze in corso con riferimento all’attuazione delle policy universitarie, discutere con rappresentanti del mondo universitario e degli enti di ricerca le possibili strategie per lo sviluppo dell’Open Access.
