AI Workers Go To the European Parliament — Livestream and Report (Nov. 21, 2024, 2:30-5:30 pm)
Dear all, I am thrilled to announce an unprecedented initiative taking place on Thursday, November 21st, 2024. Together with my DiPLab colleague Milagros Miceli, I will be joining MEP Leïla Chaibi at the European Parliament to bring AI data workers and EU policymakers together for the first time. This groundbreaking meeting aims to connect the voices of those who make AI systems possible with the individuals shaping their future regulations. (Un)Artificial Intelligence: Workers Behind the Machine Date: November 21st, 2024 Time: 2:30 – 5:30 PM CET Location: European Parliament, Brussels Room: Spinelli 1G2 [ https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdyVm1oWvRyG1E5cjPk6gd0M87cqk3ATNtv... | Register to Attend in Person ] Can't make it in person? For the first time the European institution welcomes a delegation of workers and organizers coming from Colombia, Italy, Spain, Syria, and the United States, to share their firsthand experiences and discuss pathways to improve their working conditions. Their presence transforms abstract policy discussions into concrete dialogue about the human foundation of AI development. Data workers' stories will illuminate the complex reality behind AI systems. While headlines often focus on technological breakthroughs, these workers perform the crucial tasks that make AI development possible. Their insights will be invaluable as the European Parliament considers policies to protect and support this vital workforce.
