Long version: So far reCAPTCHA allowed Google to extract digital labor from users, i.e. to make users produce value for Google without them knowing. When you needed to retrieve the occasional password or to post a comment on certains blogs, you had to “verify that you were human” by typing in words that would ultimately help Google Books digitize texts, or detect house numbers to improve Google Street View. But people at Mountain View’s Googleplex heard reCAPTCHA could be frustrating to you, beloved user. Io lo prendo in modo molto più ottimista. La collaborazione uomo-macchina, da un tipo di rapporto che da una parte era completamente sbilanciato verso le decisioni dell'uomo, ma dall'altra era anche completamente responsabilità dell'uomo, sta ribilanciandosi verso un nuovo equilibrio. Se genera valore per entrambi, rimane comunque valido. L'ibrido uomo macchina che coevolve—era il titolo del mio keynote a GALA un anno e mezzo fa https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2YfAPlS9pT0 —dovrà naturalmente essere monitorato. L'immagine simbolo per me oggi di questo nuovo equilibrio è rappresentato dal casello di uscita del Telepass: 99% e passa dei casi viene gestito dalla macchina automaticamente, ma c'è il pulsante per chiedere l'aiuto dell'umano per la minuscola parte restante. Fintantoché prendiamo coraggio e leadership e viene ridiscusso il contratto sociale che permetta di dare dignità a quegli umani che non trovano impiego nel nuovo equilibrio che emerge, le possibilità di emancipazione e autodeterminazione per le persone che non possono che aumentare.
