in realtà c'è chi ci ha provato, per esempio guru indiani arrivati in California che hanno creato franchising, registrato trade-mark e provato a brevettare posizioni o sequenze. Il caso più noto fu quello del fondatore del Bikram Yoga, Sig. Bikram Choudhuri, vedi:

Choudhury has claimed that Bikram Yoga is under copyright and that it could not be taught or presented by anyone whom he had not authorized. Choudhury began making those claims in 2011. In 2011 Choudhury started a lawsuit against Yoga to the People, a competing yoga studio founded by a former student of Choudhury's and with a location near one of the Bikram Yoga studios in New York. Choudhury lost at first instance, and appealed the decision, with the Court of Appeal dismissing his copyright claim over yoga poses in Bikram Yoga.[citation needed]

As a result of that lawsuit, the United States Copyright Office issued a clarification that yoga postures (asanas) could not be copyrighted in the way claimed by Choudhury, and that Yoga to the People and others could continue to freely teach these exercises."

Da notare anche che lo yoga è da un anno nella lista del patrimonio immateriale dell'umanità (https://ich.unesco.org/en/RL/yoga-01163 ) e quindi protetto dall'omonima convenzione ( https://ich.unesco.org/en/convention ).

Sono d'accordo con Elena sulla male informazione dell'articolo, ovviamente non esiste brevetto per le posizioni yoga.
Certo una cosa sono le terapie ayuverda (piante e cibo), sulle quali si potrebbe prospettare una protezione brevettuale e un'altra cosa le asana.
