Here, in New York, this led to last year’s passage of the Public Oversight of Surveillance Technology (POST) Act, the first surveillance reforms in a generation. The POST Act may have only been a modest first step toward transparency, but it’s already paying dividends, as with last month’s revelations of a $159 million slush fund.

This may be the inflection point when we realize just how walled-off we’ve become, and begin dismantling the systems that track and segregate us."
