CopyrightX is a course on Copyright Law developed by Professor William Fisher III at Harvard Law School and first offered online in 2013 under the HarvardX distance-learning initiative and the Berkman Klein Center for Internet and Society. Since 2014, it has also been offered as an affiliated course in several countries, including Italy. The course examines current copyright law, its impact on art, entertainment, and the industry, and debates surrounding its reform. Through recorded lectures, readings, weekly seminars, webcasts, and online discussions, participants explore how the copyright system seeks to stimulate and regulate creative expression.
The CopyrightX Course – Harvard Law School / University of Turin is coordinated by Maximiliano Marzetti, PhD, Associate Professor of Law at IESEG School of Management in Paris, and former Deputy Director of the Turin University-WIPO LLM in Intellectual Property, and is supervised by Alessandro Cogo, Associate Professor of Intellectual Property and Business Law at the University of Turin, School of Law, and Director of the Turin University-WIPO LLM in Intellectual Property.
Admission to the Harvard Law School CopyrightX - Turin University Affiliated Course is free of charge and open to anyone who has completed a bachelor’s degree, has knowledge or experience in copyright matters or intellectual property law, and has full professional command of the English language. The process is highly competitive, and enrollment is limited to a maximum of twenty (20) successful applicants. Please note that only successful applicants will be notified. Candidates who do not receive a reply by November 28, 23:59 CET, should consider their application unsuccessful. Selection decisions are final and not subject to appeal or review.
The course will commence in early December, which includes weekly synchronous (live) online seminars with the coordinator, and is expected to conclude in February 2026. Seminars will be held online on Thursday or Friday afternoons, or Saturday mornings (CET). Attendance is mandatory and required to take the final exam. Participants who pass the exam will receive an electronic certificate of completion from Harvard University. Please make sure you can meet these requirements before applying.
