On the basis of this list, the Commission will invite experts in the respective area to thematic workshops to discuss issues which are considered relevant for the economic context of IP. - The objective is to establish closer links with experts and researchers in the field in order to proactively screen developments in the area of IP and their likely economic impacts. 2. Workshop on the concepts of “commercial scale” and “commercial purpose” in the context of IP infringements <http://ec.europa.eu/internal_market/iprenforcement/docs/workshops/140919-wor...> – 19.09.2014 - The Commission intends to hold the first economic workshop on 19 September to discuss the concepts of “commercial scale” and “commercial purpose” in the context of IP infringements. Potential participants will be selected from the list mentioned above by mid-August - The objective of the workshop would be firstly to discuss the pros and cons of the different concepts used in the IPR legal framework of the EU and secondly to discuss potential economic guidance which could be provided to judges in order to help them applying these concepts in order to determine when an infringement or activity should be deemed to be of a 'commercial scale' or for 'commercial purpose' etc. - The Commission staff will produce a summary report of the workshop. The paper will be made public by the Commission on its website. Results might also be used in subsequent policy work and reports by the Commission services.
