l'articolo è interessante ma forse si potrebbe argomentare che - Chi si dichiara Charlie oggi lo fa sull'onda dell'indignazione. Gli studi sulle dinamiche delle masse, in questo caso informate da notizie riportate dai giornali (non sempre obbiettivi) o dai social media (ancora meno), spiegano che quando ci sentiamo parte di un gruppo, in questo caso un gruppo virtuale, è probabile una polarizzazione delle opinioni ed è certo che una grossa fetta della popolazione rimarrà in silenzio, non in questo caso, ma in tutti i casi, fenomeno che si spiega con la teoria della spirale del silenzio. Se sia giusto o politically correct indignarsi contro dei sospetti estremisti musulmani piuttosto che di altre religioni o gruppi etnici, o meglio il motivo per cui quanto accade a Parigi (Francia) o a Ferguson (USA) o, molto più grave, nella Repubblica Sudafricana, scatenino reazioni diverse tra loro chiediamolo al nostro personale concetto di civiltà e a quanto sia, inconsapevolmente probabilmente, influenzato dai valori occidentali, non sempre condivisi a livello inernazionale. - Delegare agli artisti e agli intellettuali il ruolo di critici professionisti mi sembra riduttivo: potremmo aspettarci critiche razionali anche dai politici e dai comunicatori. E da un'opinione pubblica attiva. - Censure preventive: non si parla male dei musulmani ma neanche degli ebrei o dei cattolici, tutto dipende dal contesto. - Che i politici saltino sul carro dell'indignazione è operazione ormai risaputa. - Integrazione ed estremismo: se ripercorriamo la storia dell'umanità possiamo constatare che non sempre è semplice che modi diversi (in base a valori diversi) di concepire l'esistenza si integrino in tempi stretti. In alcuni casi che si integrino del tutto. Ma i concetti astratti applicati alla rozza materia si sviliscono. Non per questo dobbiamo smettere di crederci. I miei 2 cents. The tragic terrorist attack at the French satirist magazine Charlie Hebdo in Paris, killing ten journalists and two policemen, is frightening at many levels. Although the three terrorists are still at large, and the official motivation hasn’t been established yet, all indications point to Jihadists, probably French-born Muslims who returned from the war in Syria (note the similarities with the terrorist attack at the Jewish Museum in Brussels last year).
The general response has been one that we have seen too often before, for example after the killing of Dutch filmmaker Theo van Gogh in 2004 or the terrorist attacks in the US of 2011. Politicians use the attacks to boast about the perfect democratic and free society that they preside over and stress that this has nothing to do with Islam, but with some pathological individuals who use a religion as an excuse for extremist ideas. Citizens respond in the one medium in which they are still active, social media, and make grand statements of solidarity, before being distracted by a video of a waterskiing squirrel or a piano-playing kitten. Both will declare that we are all whomever the victim of the day is.
Today Facebook and Twitter are full of statements like “Je suis Charlie” (I am Charlie) and “we are all Charlie”. Unfortunately, we are not. Or, more precisely, with very few exceptions, we are not Charlie, and that is a major problem for liberal democracies around the world. Let me give you three reasons why most of us are not Charlie and why this is problematic for our democracies.
