This is a follow-up to my last emails.

 

I am pleased to invite community to a workshop where I will be discussing the findings of this research. The details of this workshop are as follows;

 

Date: 21 June 2019

 

Venue: Hall D30, the Digital Bridge Institute 8 P.O.W. Mafemi Crescent, Off Solomon Lar Way Utako Abuja

 

Time: 9 am – 1pm (inclusive of lunch break).

 

Other stakeholders expected at this workshop are; officials of the Ministry of Communications Technology, officials of the Nigerian Communications Commission, telecoms industry operators, International Governmental Organizations, civil society organizations working in the area of telecoms/internet policy and consumer protection issues, the academia, consumer associations and the Nigerian Bar Association.

I trust this meets each and all of you well.

I would like to get back to you regarding my previous mail concerning my policy researches. I am happy to inform you that my first research concerning the competition regulation of net-neutrality is now complete and finally published. I have decided to inform community because I believe net-neutrality is an internet policy issue that is of relevance to our advocacy work. I am happy to also note that NCC the telecoms regulator has issued a draft code that provides core net-neutrality provisions and has held two public consultations in respect of this code. It is expected that this code would soon be enacted.

Please find a copy of the report attached to this mail or you may download from here or here. Kindly share within your circle, and feel free to revert with any comments or suggestions you may have regarding this work. I am hoping to convene a small workshop in Abuja of stakeholders where I will give a discussion on the findings of this research, hopefully in the coming weeks. I will keep community informed as this plan takes shape.

I trust you are all doing well this new year.

For those of you who do not know (of) me, I am Chukwuyere Izuogu, a Solicitor and telecoms legal researcher. I presently head the Abuja office of the law office of Streamsowers & Kóhn, and I am also a research fellow at the African Academic Network on Internet Policy (ANNoIP), where my practice and research is in all areas of competition, telecommunications, information technology and intellectual property law. In September of 2018, I commenced a Tech Policy Fellowship with the Mozilla Foundation where I will be conducting policy/academic research and engaging stakeholders on issues related to net neutrality and data protection in Nigeria.
As these are topical public policy issues which are consistent with the work you and your organizations are involved in, I deem it important to inform you at this time of my fellowship work and keep you updated on the progress. Upon completion of my fellowship research a Mozilla sponsored workshop will be held probably in Abuja where the outcome of my researches would be made available to an enlarged stakeholder group and community members, as my intention is to see how these researches can also be incorporated into each of your advocacy work in this space.

As time goes on, I am likely to require your input in clarifying several issues concerning my policy researches. In addition, I would be happy to respond to any question any of you may have about my fellowship work and the status so far.
