With approximately 40 staff members the Tilburg Institute for Law, Technology, and Society (TILT) is a multidisciplinary center at Tilburg University specializes in research and education in the field of technology regulation. TILT is one of the largest and most innovative European research centers in technology regulation. It is an independent management unit within Tilburg Law School, a research-led, specialized school that is rated among the best in Europe.

 

TILT invites applications for an assistant/associate professorship (UD/UHD) in the field of ‘technology regulation’.

Emerging innovations in ICT, genetics, robotics and neurotechnologies present both opportunities and challenges for society. On the one hand, it is challenging to design adequate regulatory frameworks for these technologies that are legitimate, effective, and sustainable. On the other hand, these same technologies offer new opportunities as potentially powerful regulatory instruments. TILT’s research focuses on both regulation of technology and on regulation by technology. We aim to strengthen of our multidisciplinary team by attracting a scholar in regulation and governance who offers knowledge and understanding of fundamental issues regarding (technology) regulation, different types of regulatory strategies, rules, standards and enforcement, quality and evaluation, and multi-level governance.

 

Job description

The successful candidate is expected to research, teach, and supervise graduate and PhD students in the field of ‘technology regulation’. (S)he is expected to develop new ideas in research and education, and acquire funding (independently or jointly with other colleagues) for future research. These activities should help TILT with the further expansion of its research and education in the field of technology regulation. Research will be conceptual, fundamental and applied, for example, in studies commissioned by third parties (government, EU, and private parties).
