I would like to email a question to the centres in the NoC regarding the WIPO call for comments: Impact of Artificial Intelligence on IP Policy: Call for Comments *https://www.wipo.int/about-ip/en/artificial_intelligence/call_for_comments/i... <https://www.wipo.int/about-ip/en/artificial_intelligence/call_for_comments/i...> * (Deadline is February, 14, 2020.) I am working on this especially from the perspective of copyright. I think it would *be crucial to include more entities in the process, especially those who are focused on (constitutional aspects) privacy issues and not just IPl.* At least 2 issues deal with “privacy as property” questions in the call (Issue 8 and Issue 10). In the case when this important question is raised in the arena as is WIPO which is inclined to make and defend pro property arguments, a debate can easily become imbalanced. It would be essential to include more specialist on privacy issues. Are you familiar with activities of centres regarding this topic. Would it be possible to address this issue among members of the network and suggest to them to get involved? Please, advise me how to contact the centres involved. Kind regards MajaB. Dear Dr. Maja,
*As a follow-up to your application, this message is to welcome Intellectual Property Institute (IPI) as an Affiliated Participant in the Global Network of Internet & Society Research Centers (NoC)!*
Affiliated Participants”, i.e., other types of institutions, still with Internet & Society-related open threads, carried out, e.g., as non-academic research centers, policy-support entities, or think tanks.
Please take your time to go through the whole message, since it also contains requests for action re: your participation in the NoC, and in particular with respect to: 1) Description of your Center in the NoC website; 2) NoC Wiki; 3) NoC mailing-lists; 4) Future communications; 5) NoC activities and guiding principles.
1) Materials for the website We are almost ready to add your center to the networkofcenters.net website as an Affiliated Participant, and for this would like to kindly ask you for a logo for your center and descriptive paragraph “about” your center.
To make the website more visually appealing, we hope you will consider giving us permission to use your logo on the site. The logo will be used on the “centers” page, where we are introducing all centers individually. If this is acceptable to you, we ask that you send us the negative version of your center’s logo (white image on transparent background, in horizontal:vertical proportion of 3:1) if available.
In addition, to liven up the site, we ask that you send us a short paragraph (roughly 3-5 sentences) about your center or a link to one we can edit (e.g. https://cyber.law.harvard.edu/about).
Also, should you have an official Twitter account, and/or a RSS feed, please provide them to us.
We would be grateful for submission of these two items by the 19th of February.
*2) NoC Wiki* *Please fill out your personal description in the NoC Wiki by simply visiting: * *http://noc-wiki.nexacenter.org/view/Special:FormEdit/Person/{{name}}_{{surname}} <http://noc-wiki.nexacenter.org/view/Special:FormEdit/Person/%7B%7Bname%7D%7D...> * *It will help us to enable matchmaking between participants, and to expose public profiles in the NoC website. You can already browse it, see its main page: http://noc-wiki.nexacenter.org/view/Main_Page <http://noc-wiki.nexacenter.org/view/Main_Page>*
*Should other colleagues from IPI be interested in filling out the profile, they simply have to hit “create or edit” in the main page.* *3) Mailing-listsAs an Affiliated Participant, all persons copied in the message already have been subscribed to the following mailing-lists (Should other persons from your wish to be subscribed in ‘network”, just let me know and I’ll do that ASAP).*
* - netsociety - netsociety@lists.networkofcenters.net <netsociety@lists.networkofcenters.net>- https://lists.networkofcenters.net/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/netsociety <https://lists.networkofcenters.net/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/netsociety>- This is a public discussion list (with public archive) open to anyone who wishes to discuss Internet & Society issues. This is the venue where we expect that the NoC centers will not only engage among themselves in public, but also will interact with the public at large, from policy makers to citizens, from teachers to research funders, etc.*
* - noc-announce- noc-announce@lists.networkofcenters.net <noc-announce@lists.networkofcenters.net>- https://lists.networkofcenters.net/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/noc-announce <https://lists.networkofcenters.net/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/noc-announce>- Broadcast of NoC announcements. Unidirectional list, low traffic. Public archive. Meant for those individuals who wish to be informed of NoC activities, publications, etc., without having to participate in the (possibly) high-traffic "netsociety" list. Should you wish to opt-out, please manage your subscription via the link above.*
*4) CommunicationsAs soon as all materials are gathered, we will communicate the new joining Centers through our channels.
